Toyota / Lexus Remote & Immobilizer Key Programming

Here's how to program a Toyota or Lexus wireless remote transmitter and immobilizer key by yourself without any special tools!!!

Key duplication at a dealership can get expensive, as they charge exorbitant amounts to program a new key. It only takes a few mins to program and you can do it yourself at home without Techstream software.

This aftermarket key was purchased from eBay, for about $30. It was then cut at the local Lexus dealership for $20.

There are two stages in programming the key: the first to program it to start the car, and the second to program the wireless remote to unlock the doors and trunk. You must have one master key already programmed to be able to program new keys and remotes.

Programming the car involves inserting the key into the ignition and depressing the pedals, then inserting the new key to be programmed. Insure the key matches the FFC ID of the original key before purchasing a replacement.

The remote programming involves inserting the key in the ignition, opening the driver's door as well as cycling the door locks. If your door lock actuators are worn out, the locks can be manually cycled.

The vehicle demonstrated is a 2000 Lexus GS300. Procedure should be the same for all 1998-2005 Lexus GS300 GS400 and GS430, and late 90's to early 2000's Toyota Camry, Solara, Avalon, Corolla, Rav4, Matrix, Sienna, Highlander, 4Runner and Sequioa, in addition to Lexus LX470, GX460, RX300, GS300, ES300, IS300 and LS400.

Transponder portion:
1. Insert master key in ignition
2. Press gas pedal 5 times
3. Press brake pedal 6 times
4. Remove key from ignition
5. Insert new key into ignition
6. Press gas pedal once
7. Wait for the security light to stop blinking (60 sec)

Remote portion:
1. Insert & remove key from ignition
2. Cycle locks 5 times
3. Close & open driver’s door
4. Cycle locks 5 times
5. Insert key into ignition
6. Turn the key to on (Do not start), to off (Locks cycle)
7. Hold lock & unlock buttons (1.5 sec)
8. Press & release the lock button (Locks cycle)
9. Close the door to exit programming mode

On some older cars you will find that your lock and unlock button is weak or won’t cycle 5 times. You can also use your key on the outside to do the lock and unlock process rather then pushing button 👍💪

THANK YOU !!! This procedure worked on my 2000 Lexus RX300. I was able to program two spare keys. You just need to be patient at the last step and wait for a minute or two for the security led to stop flashing.

I just wanted to start off by saying Love you man.
Next. If one has the access to tech stream:
Its so much easier to program a Lexus Key ( Non SmartKey Fob)
Requires one master. Then you insert a used transponder non virginized or new cut key with remote/transponder ( FCC might need matching?)
Then to program the remote features use TS again and you hold 2 buttons. All the required steps are within TS.
Its so much easier than doing this little dance. I actually tried these steps once and failed and quit thinking about it for awhile.
Took out TS one day and it was Soo much easier. If you drive a Lexus its well worth the investment.
Can also customize your car to disable seatbelt chime and turn on/off DRL for some models.

This worked perfectly on my 2003 is300 the only thing that gave me a problem was connecting the remote everytime I did the unlock, lock step my electric lock switch on the drivers door would get stuck. So I had to do it manually with my hand while I pressed the unlock and lock button 5 times and after a couple of tries it worked 😂 I was so happy finally I can use the remote. And for this whole process of connecting the key and the remote Lexus wanted me to wait 2hrs and pay $120+

Hi. Thanks for the video. Managed to get the first part to work, but not sure why I can't get the remote to work. I get the car ready for programming but won't accept key when I press the lock unlock. Any ideas?

This worked like a charm on my ‘99 Land Cruiser, even though it doesn’t have the security light. Followed all the instructions and just made sure to leave the key in for 60 seconds. Now if I could just get the key fob to work outside of the truck.
