I attended Elevation for six years, was saved there, met my husband there. But five years into being a believer, I started getting restless. My husband was the first one to say we should start looking for a new church, and it took me almost another month to agree. But the thing about that ministry is that once you start growing in your walk with Jesus, you start seeing what’s missing there. I have no doubts that people are still saved through that ministry...but spiritual growth is stunted. It’s all about appearances, whether it’s on stage or in the community while serving (wearing branded shirts, of course). We are a part of a Gospel centered church now, one where the pastors preach from full sections of scripture instead of just picking and choosing which verses to use to support a point.

I’m thankful for Furtick and Elevation bc it brought me to Christ. But I too, felt something was off and missing, so I did my own research and decided to take my family out of elevation.

I live in the Charlotte area where Elevation Church was started, and I always wanted to like Steven Furtick. I mean, he is reaching the younger generation by the droves. Like you said, he is funny and charismatic, but...his worldliness is a problem. He is a very talented musician and sings as well. When Elevation first started up, he got on stage with his worship band and electric guitar and played the old Joan Jett song, I Love Rock and Roll. Ugh!!? I have also seen him throw up the devil horns symbol with his hand more than once. I know people want to say he is doing the Rock and Roll sign, bit he knows better. At one point, and could still be that way, the Elevation website showed people in the church and several were making that same hand gestures. I just can't be a part of a Church that wants to be worldly to the point of not being God honoring. We visited one Church where the pastor started telling is his favorite movies and bands. When he named Rush as his favorite band of all time and talked about their men's Bible Study called "Beers, Bibles and Bros" which was held at a local tavern, I knew it was time to go. It is not legalism to have discernment about what God wants for His children. Worldliness is not of God.

I know my comment will be taken the wrong way and that’s not my intention, but I think it would be helpful for your viewers if you provide scripture verses when you say “I have many scripture verses to back it up.” I haven’t really listened to Steve Furtick, I only know of Elevation because of one of their songs, but if we are to know this is a dangerous church, and you are taking on the role of guiding people, I think scripture would be very important here.

When I asked a friend of mine about Steven, she told me he was a good motivational speaker and then laughed. Since then, I haven't watched him. I have been listening to YOU and I don't listen to a lot of Pastors and music any more. I would rather listen to people that are ALL for God, not just when it suits THEIR needs. We don’t need motivational speakers.We need true preachers! We don’t need trendy and super fly men on our pulpits, we should embrace any gloomy and out of style preacher who has lost a taste for the world and wouldn’t encourage their congregation to wallow in earthly splendor! All we need is truth...uncompromising, undivided and sanctifying truth!!!!

I definitely found him so encouraging, but like you said his teachings are very “man centered” which is what I started noticing.
How amazing is God for blessing us even when we don’t deserve it, but the blessing should never replace the Blesser!
