MOTHER TO 11: SIMPLE HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE

Happy Friday! Drop the word “APPLE” down below in the comments, and I’ll send the recipe your way🍎

Apple season is here, and I have already started making applesauce daily! That's how easy this is to make.

Homemade Applesauce:

18 Apples, cored & cut into cubes
3/4 Cup Water
2/3 Cup Maple Syrup or Honey (Optional)
2 tsp Lemon Juice
1/2 Tbsp Cinnamon
1/2 Tbsp Five Spice
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
Pinch of Salt

1. Let’s start by preparing your apples. Wash, peel (optional), core, and dice into small cubes.
2. Add your apples, water, sweetener (optional), lemon juice, cinnamon, five spices, nutmeg, and salt in a medium pot over low heat. Stir occasionally and cook until the apples have softened.
3. Mix the remaining ingredients into the pot until well combined.
4. Cook the applesauce on medium heat. Allow to cook down, about 20-30 min.
5. Using a blender or smashing by hand, break down apples until you get the texture you prefer.
6. Once applesauce has cooled completely, transfer it to a mason jar and store it in the fridge for 6-10 days.
7. Enjoy!

Serving Suggestions

Breakfast: Enjoy it warm over oatmeal or with a dollop of Greek yogurt.

Lunch: Pair it with a turkey sandwich for a sweet and savory combination.

Dinner: It’s a great side dish with chicken.

Snack Time: Have it on its own or drizzle it with a bit of heavy cream from Kalona Super Natural for an extra indulgence. It’s delicious! @kalonasupernatural_milk_dairy

I'm almost 70 years of age. Both of my parents made homemade applesauce all through the Fall and Winter. We also left the skins on. We are Canadians so we used Maple syrup to sweeten it up or a bit of brown suger. We ate it as a chunky applesauce. We ate this wonderful hearty applesauce for breakfast with toast, pancakes or waffles, stirred it into oatmeal, or just a bowl of it by itself! At dinner, it is so incredibly delicious as a topping for vanilla ice cream!! Fantastic!!❤❤❤❤❤❤

After what happened in Georgia Wednesday I'm really beginning to appreciate parents who homeschool. The applesauce does look amazing.

You brought back a flood of memories of my childhood as a little girl growing up on the Indiana farming Prarie. A trip to the local apple orchard was magic. Having the freezers full were so fun in case we were "snowed in". I'm smiling at sweet memories. Thanks!❤

I love making apple sauce for my kids years ago. The other week one of them was mentioning it to me, my kids are young adults and teenagers.
