I think there's a lot of resentment toward the way in which America has wielded its power in the past 70 years. Its decline may happen quicker than you think, and will proceed in stages as various groups of countries find the right economic conditions in which to cut ties.

Of course the American empire is in decline. Look at the disparity of rich and poor, we turned into the society the colonists tried to escape.
Bigger question; was the American empire good for the people across the globe?

Like then, all it will take is for Americans to say "Enough of the lesser of 2 evils BS." I think we're almost there.

Yes, you can't have a system based on unlimited growth, drawing from a finite pool and expect it to last. You can see what they have done to the economy since 2008, they have tried to freeze time and that never works.
