1.Bulgaria qualified for the Euro 1996, not 1966. The 1966 one is a World Cup, which was also held in England, but the country was also took a part in that tournament. They came after having an incredible run in 1994 World Cup, beating France in the qualification, then two previous World Cup finalists Argentina and Germany.
2.Albania had actually got their first (and only win) against Romania in 2016. They didn't got embarrassed during the group stage exit.
3.Latvia's draw against Germany was considered the biggest humiliation for Germany at that time because it effectively eliminated them from Euro 2004. Meanwhile, it was such the greatest day in Baltic football, despite being grouped without a single wins.
In the qualification, Latvia also had an important away wins against Sweden and Poland to book a playoff spot, at which they also eliminated the 2002 World Cup 3rd placed teams Turkey.
Also, Latvia had almost qualified for the playoffs of the 2010 World Cup until a big loss to none other than Greece effectively killed them.

latvia is a very nice country. there's usually wonderkids or big stars from pretty much every country, i don't know if there's any from latvia. i don't know of any popular footballer from any of the baltics other than klavan i guess. i know krollis from spezia, and i know robert uldrikis, i used him on fiifa often, he plays for cambuur in the eredivisie right now, but they got relegated...

i read before that football isn't that popular in the baltics because basket is the national sport, not football. i really hope to see latvia and the other two baltic countries rise in the next few years. a good qualification run, maybe they can qualify for the world cup in 2026, some good talent doing well in the top leagues...

Sad how Bulgaria declined. They were a semi finalist in World Cup 1994. Sadly all the funding has dried up since their shift to democracy.

It was just the second time for us in the EURO champions league and we gave show. Lots of great players and talents but need a better menagment. We were in the group of death and we played well head to head with world champions such as Italy and Spain.
