Celestion NEO Creamback Vs Celestion V-Type in a Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb

When I got this Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb I wasn't quite blown away with the speaker. I found it a bit flubby in the bottom end and fizzy in the top.

So I upgraded to a new Celestion Neo Creamback and shaved a bit of weight off my amp in the process.

And here's my reaction....

Demo of stock V-Type Speaker 3:55
Demo of NEO Creamback 6:15

I'm extremely pleased with the results.

Let me know what you think.

Check out my band.

What do you think? Sounds better? Worse? Just the same?

Just ordered my creamback for my blues junior. Sweet sound, tighter low end. Can't wait!

I also replaced the stock V-type in my Custom DR. I had a G12H30 Anniversary lying around for years and it turned out to be a match made in heaven when I installed it. I'm tempted to put a NeoCreamback in it for the weight savings too, but I'm afraid it won't have the same mojo. If I start gigging a lot I'll definitely try it. Thanks for the video!

OEM speakers for Fender has been Jensen as a norm.... the Celestion V-Type was introduced around 2014. Someone replaced that speaker in that '68 Fender Custom Deluxe Reverb combo at the very least once. The V-Type was meant to have a different tone to it than the rest of the Celestion line-up. The Neo Cream-back was meant to be a lighter cream-back.

Which one sounds better? it's in the ears of the listener.

Man that creamback is I love Neo speakers- I have an Eminence Lil Texas in my 68 Custom Princeton Reverb. It’s a Limited Run that came stock with a 12” Celestion AlNiCo Blue. The Neo speaker is rated at 125 watts, whereas the Blue was rated at 15. The amp is much lighter, louder, and cleaner sounding. Nice tight lows, nice smooth sparkle on top. Unbelievable. Seems the Neo Creamback is a winner also, just a bit more quiet.

I picked up a blown one for $25.00, waiting on the rebuild kit from Celestion $89.00. I guess I could have just saved up a little more and bought a new one.

Great vid! Thinking of doing the same thing with my Deluxe Reverb....And getting an attenuator. Unrelated question- is that a model of DS9 on the shelf or am I mixing up my geeky interests?🤣

Nice comparison, thank you. I am picking up an FSR 68 Custom DR later this week, it's fitted with the Neo Cream. I love the edge of breakup tones you get here but with the volume drop am wondering if there's enough clean tone volume left for gigging with the Neo?

I have two Tonemaster Deluxe Reverbs. I switched to Celestion Creamback in one of them. I prefer the original speaker.

I have really good hearing because I was careful with volume when I was gigging. I like the sounds I'm hearing with the stock speaker in this video more so than the cream back.

Neo Creamback sounds clearer and more articulated. The flubbyness is gone

Hi, do you felt that the neo creamback speakers distorted with high volumes? or it holded well to vol? I like the tone, i just want to avoid speaker distortion. THankkks

Opinions on v-type vs cream back for a Master volume silver face twin??

Why does Fender use a 70-watt speaker on a 22-watt amp? Overhead for clean tone, pedals? A 50-watt speaker is going to overdrive better. I have a 25-watt combo that does best with a 35-watt speaker.

How will a 35-watt behave in Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb?
