Why Are They Putting Duct Tape On Airplanes?

People think that these duct tapes are holding the plane together, but that's not true. Posts like this have been going viral, but what are those exactly? It's called speed tape,they are designed to withstand extreme speeds and environment. Some tapes are used for aerodynamic purposes, but they are mostly used to cover small cracks or imperfections temporarily until a more permanent solution can be implemented.

The one with it all over the wing was because the 787 has a problem with the paint used over the wing sticking to the composite the wing is made from, and the paint peals, so they use speed tape to patch the pealing paint to not cause any aerodynamic deficiencies

The tape is used for the paint mainly for the 787-10. The plane has no problem with itself and can fly safely.
