Why climate change makes extreme weather worse.

In this Our Changing Climate environmental video essay, I look at how climate change affects extreme weather like hurricanes, droughts, and wildfire. With recent hurricanes like hurricane Michael and hurricane Florence, climate change seems to be definitely affecting our weather systems. I also take a look at how a focus on resilience might be able to mitigate the destruction of these natural disasters.

What do you think is the best way to build resilience in the face of more extreme weather? Do you have any thoughts on how we might be able to navigate this new reality of more intense weather?

Honestly unbelievable quality of videos you are doing the thankless work of informing the public about climate change and environmentalism while entertaining them as well well done keep it up

Your essay videos are incredible, please keep up the good work! We need level-headed people like you spreading sound knowledge on climate change.

The news scenes in the beginning makes this look like an opening scene from a disaster movie haha, but then that only makes things scarier

I love that this means the word "unprecedented" will be heard so often, that eventually... we won´t need the word anymore, because it´s implied.

Very good suggestions for solutions and improvements for the issue. Explained brilliantly

Climate is global, and weather is local. To talk about weather, the environment needs to be included for the analysis. For example, frequent big hurricanes in the East coast of the US can be attributed to high sea surface temperature in Gulf of Mexico and tropic west Atlantic ocean. Water evaporation from water surface is accelerated with the water temperature non-linearly, and is steep above 30C. For the climate, cold winter and hot summer are due to loss of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that buffers heats from the sun.

People from the 2080's will look back at films like The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 etc. thinking 'Wow climate change was just a sf story back then??"

@2:19 you say temperatures have risen sharply, yet the graph is for relative number of extreme events.. That is somewhat confusing and suggestive.
And there is a spike around world war II.. And a drop just before and after. But you disregard that in the graphic and accentuate the sharp spike in extreme weather events. Why?

Hello at Beautiful Group. I wonder can I have something to say about your end of the world flooding. I am a retired Commercial Pilot.
Can I point out to you that when we pilots fly, we get a calibration up-date from the control tower for barometric pressure of the earth. The standard earth air pressure on the ground measured in Millibar's is 1015 MB. Do you know back in 1942 WW2 pilots also set the sub scale settings on their altimeter at 1015m.bars. So that tells you I am sure that the barometric pressure back in 1942 is the same 79 years ago. Weather patterns are governed and driven by air pressure. So why would there be climate change when the Barometric pressure is the same. To be creditable you people need to be more professional about science, as the weather is governed by air pressure. A cyclone when the next one comes along the pressure will be around 990 MBs, but always returns to 1015 MBs . So how about educating yourselves and quote data for your argument.

Summers are not really getting hotter. Here in Missouri we still haven't come close to the summer of 1980 and if temperatures are rising then we should be experiencing hotter summers with an increase of C02 but it isn't happening. Last year we recorded the first 100 degree day in five years. The 1930's happen to be the warmest decade and C02 was well below 410 ppm's. With an increase of C02 you would think our summers would be getting hotter but they are not. The number of days above 90 degrees are decreasing. not increasing.

I Don't understand why people are still using non renewable greenhouse gases. this is also very bad for Antartica.
