How To Retrieve Artificial Crab Lures (For Redfish, Black Drum & Sheepshead)

Here's a question I've been getting a lot recently:

How do you retrieve crab lures?

Baitfish lures and shrimp lures are really popular and pretty obvious in how you retrieve them... fish and shrimp naturally swim through the water, so make your lure swim through the water!

But crabs are not as popular and don't swim like other marine species.

Sometimes they scuttle sideways on the bottom, sometimes they drift along the surface...

So what's the best way to retrieve them to catch fish?

Well, there are two ways I like to retrieve them when casting them out and I'll show you how to do those two retrieves in this video.

I'll also show you how I rig them and the one extra thing I add to them that helps me catch more redfish and black drum with them.

And finally, I'll show you how I catch sheepshead along dock pilings and bridges with them.

Incidentally, I found the one thing that can wreck these Crusty Crab lures. I've had one that probably caught 40 sheeps before I lost it in structure. I've seen puffers take shots at them, they don't care. I went out last Thursday and it was so stinking hot that they melted in the tackle box. 97 degrees, no shade, no wind. Felt like 110+

I use 2.5 Yum crawfish lures with the Japanese Shimano Brenious Bream rig and it works awesome for me.

When I use artificial crab, I like to rig it to where the crab looks to be moving sideways. Whenever I see them swimming or moving along, it is always sideways. Diff strokes, diff folks.

Hey can you guys test which is the best surf braid ? I just need high tensile strength and long castibility I don't really need abrasion resistance
