Minimalist fashion (or minimalistic fashion) is an overused word... What does it really mean? In this video, I share my opinion, why tailoring is so important for a minimalist aesthetic, why minimalism doesn't mean monochromatic and which brands are really "minimalists".

You are one of a few youtubers who create videos so that they would be truly interesting and unique. And you create them just because you want to share the information.
Sad to see how others unfold the whole topic only to advertise something.
Keep it up!💖

I was a Personal shopper for Harvey Nichols and I remember a client (Actress) who was going to the Brit Awards and wanted to wear anything but black. It needed to have some edge (Rock n Roll). She dressed simply in her real life. I put her in a Jill Sander dress in a pastel sort of lime green pleated fabric. It was an empire line and therefore suitable for sitting and eating and floating around as she moved. It was a very expensive dress. From the moment she touched it she straightened up and quickly put it on and left a very happy woman. She knew it was special. If I tell you that dress had hung there for 6 months and no one had looked at it. I see her on TV at events even now you can see she is wearing Jill Sander. An exquisite designer. I always got a similar reaction to Diana von Furstenberg clothes too.

Minimalism would stand to the idea that the garment doesn't have much detail which stand out on its own and can be combined with many others and still look nice. Clean looking for better matching.

I love that you leave out the classic YouTube “please like and subscribe” thing. It never makes anyone subscribe who wasn’t initially going to. Keep making great content! It’s so informative, interesting, and accessible for such a broad audience and you as a person are a pleasure to listen to

‘Tailoring’ is the difference indeed! 👍

Thinking back over the years, my favorite garments or outfits were minimalistic. They were also the most flattering, most comfortable and I received the most compliments while wearing them
. I have never had the budget for expensive clothing, but I have learned that investing in quality over quantity is far more satisfying in the long run. Thank you for your excellent videos!

Indeed! the simpler and cleaner the look the harder it is to tailor. Every mistake is more visible and all your stitches need to be very precise. I know this first hand as I love to sew but I am not a trained tailor and it's far easier to make something with loads of pleats, ruffles or gathers than a crisp and clean cut garment. I have a lot of respect for people making this kind of clothes.

Watching great educational channels like yours means that I now only watch the highlight reels of the World Cup, I cannot be wasting time watching a whole 90 minute match when there is so much choice of good quality YouTube content!

Justine, you're such a great content creator! I appreciate how hardworking, dedicated and persistent you are! Your videos are consistently good, well researched and very interesting. It's also nice that you don't stick to one topic inside of the fashion world!

I work in the STEM field but thanks to you I've been learning a lot about something completely different like fashion!

Thank you and keep up the good work! You deserve a lot of success!

When i saw your videos a year ago i thought i can never do this and have a minimalist or capsule wardrobe. I was too obsessed with fast fashion and would always shop for an entire outfit at fast fashion stores. The qualities were not the best and i was running out of closet space with things I didnt always wear. I was also feeling guilty for encouraging the spending on brands that most likely did not have the best labour practices. I also realized i ended up spending more on a bunch of lower quality items than on one or two good quality and timeless pieces. I am watching your video again after a year and have improved my wardrobe to incorporate your tips. It is a bigger relief now to have chosen quality over quantity. Thankyou for all your videos :D

Love the video! I think designing minimalistic clothes is really hard. It is easy to make wow look with so much going on but it takes real talent (and probably much more than just talent) to do it in minimalistic way. Also I love how in minimalistic clothing a person who wears it stands out! Even models (who usually look like clothes is wearing them not vice versa) in these photos they look like a real person with personality(that they are but it sometimes looks like it's taken away from them).

Thank you for this Justine! I've learned a lot from this video. I've always been attracted to minimalism. Being an avid user of Pinterest somehow gave me an idea on how minimalism looks like aesthetically (whether in fashion or interior design). However, I can say that the concept is still somehow vague to me, and your video helped me a lot in understanding what it is and what it is not.

Thank you for your amazing videos! I'm becoming selective of what I buy nowadays when it comes to clothes because of you. I'm leaning towards small-scale designers and entrepreneurs in my country with products of impeccable quality. Love from the Philippines 💛

Finally I can tell what I wish my wardrobe consists of :) I always looking for something minimalistic, but never have enough words to explain what minimalistic fashion is. I used to relate my style to some japaneese street style, but more to so to say "darker version" of it - with basic colors, intresting cuts, layers etc. I find it aesthetic in sense of meaning that people put in it and also very eco-friendly due to the knowing how much sources Japan invest in all kind of stuff to remain them eco-friendly. Thank you, Justine! Very grateful for your educational videos :)

You captured me perfectly! 👌👌👌 I cleared out my closet (three times) and I'm on the hunt for good quality pieces, thus I'm not wasting my money! I enjoy the idea of simple, crisp and multi purpose more and more 😍 Thank you for teaching me and everyone more about it! 🤓

Your videos are like the best kind of minimalism-- they look effortless and simple, but I know you put lots of effort into them behind the scenes.
