Earthquake detection and alerts now on Android

The Android Earthquake Alerts System turns your Android phone into a mini seismometer to detect earthquakes when they start. And starting in California, an integration of ShakeAlert in the Android OS enables phones to deliver earthquake alerts for added seconds to drop, cover and hold. Hear from Android tech lead manager Marc Stogaitis, California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services seismic hazards branch chief Rachel Sierer and United States Geological Survey communications coordinator Robert De Groot as they explain more.

We just got hit in Croatia by a 6.1 earthquake (5.7 at least) and people got their updates seconds before getting hit. This is dope.

We just had an earthquake here in the Philippines a few hours ago, and the notif actually arrived a few seconds before the shaking started. 10/10 (and also slightly creepy)

Thanks to Android Alert this night we in Kazakhstan were informed of a 7.0 earthquake coming from China 🙏 The alert came 10 seconds before the shake, not much but it gave us enough time to eake up and cover. In Almaty, Kazakhstan it felt like 5-5.5.
