I don’t even produce much anymore but just listening to this guy talk about music with such passion is so wholesome

This tip is one of the most overlooked thing in production. It’s a 101 thing right there. Well done, putting this kind of knowledge upfront

I love my shaperbox. I've owned it since before it was a "box". It's so easy to set up things like the one in this video.

I was originally under the impression that the kick and bass needed to live in their own spaces entirely. After a year or so of studying, and playing with the relationship of kick and bass mixing, I can agree that kick length is extremely important! As well as the kick itself. What I have been discovering recently is that it can be favorable for your kick to be slightly longer than what is commonly taught. So that the kick is intentionally overlapping with the beginning of the bassline. Yes this causes phase distortion in the low end when they overlap, but if you do it so the bass comes in after a 1/16 or 1/8 note and the tail of the kick is just right they can blend together for some favorable results!

Mad efficient trick, even more mad is the example beat ! 🎉

Been struggling to remove a click from the tail of my kick sample... Shaperbox did the trick, thank you!

For the music I make short short kicks work best so I go for little thumps kicks 👌

I'm using latest shaperbox version and my waveform doesn't look like that. Yours looks like an EQ spectrum span thing? Mine is kick cone. You get me?

to confuse your low end you must use 10 kicks in your song - unknown producer

very true! long kicks sound good in solo but in the mix they sound cluttered

Just monitor your frequencies better, using the correct compression, sidechaining effectively when needed. Always be careful of the sub, I like to high pass my bass sometimes so it doesnt drown the sub of the kick out. Also carefully choosing what holds the sub, whether it's the kick or bass( for example check some of the mixes of kanye's stuff, he'll have the 808 take the sub role while the kick sits above it). Your decay is purely a style choice, if it messes up your mixes the way you're making out then you havent mixed it correctly. Your decay can be as long or short as you want it to be.

Wait so audio mode makes it match the underlying beat? Or the bpm?

I honestly can't hear the difference and I'm wondering if the average listen would be able to tell

I actually heard no difference at the end with the different kick lengths lol

You should make this video so you can hear even the slightest change in audio.
Because there is none.

Kick will never class with bass if your sidechain is proper
