The country's rapid progress under "socialism with Chinese characteristics" shows there is "a new choice for other countries", he told the Communist Party congress.

Are we watching the same speech? I got lots of information of what they did and what they will do for people's life. They totally focus on development. And you get a information that they want to be would center. You need a better translator or go study some Chinese please.

I don't see the needs of democracy in China. Seems they enjoy the high economic growth, buying & selling online, travelling with brand-new infrastructure, no more starvation. Even quite a lot of them don't even want to get involve with politics.

it's just another cliche that BBC relies on the same discourse to interpret and report it. Well..with the development and growing confidence, Chinese (not just Xi) will definitely know what to focus on for their own interest, not for BBC or "democracy" interest.

He should be in power in China easy for 20 years for President Xi. I’m happy for him as President for life in China. I can’t wait to meet President Xi someday in the future if I move to China.

Xi Jinping at 64 is a little junior among the top Chinese communist leaders. The 91 year old Zang Zimen has the most power of all because of his age.

I think Chinese put up with cpc authoritarianism because they compare the national experience of 1840-1945 with that of 1949-2017 concluding that they r better off sticking to the devil they know. Continued global hostility and prejudice would push them even closer to the CPC.

The outside world, mostly will not really appreciate what china is doing, or how it wants to project its power, what ever that is. The chinese have a totally different philosophy than western gov, and how they see the world.

Both china and russia need each other, against the predatory usa.

Controlling 1 billion people, is easier said then done. All the people that are negative towards china, and how they govern, ignore the way, its very difficult to govern that enormous amount of people.

I do not mind china seeing themselves, as a power. But i would think, for china to get the world to see themselves as this mega power they want, ie take on usa, the chinese will have to show the world, they are given more freedoms to there peoples.

For me, it must be very difficult to create a system, for a billion people.

But for me, if the chinese ever want to reach that vision, they have of themselves, they will have to have a system, where they at least allow some freedoms. The world must see china allow more rights to its people, before the chinese will be that voice, it wants to be.

The chinese must goven in how they see it, but for the world, to see you as a world power, it must show, it can give its people more freedoms overall.

But i certainly can appreciate that its easier said then done, ie trying to govern a country with 1 billion people.

Personally i think the world will be multi polar. The 90's was the only real time we will ever see a unipolar world, and the usa destroyed that idea. The world has gone back to multi polar world, and i think thats best. Any country thinking they will have total dominance again, for me are wrong, unless there is all out war, and i do not think the world is that stupid.
