Cut resistance and cut resistance efficiency works as follows:

Cut resistance determines the amount of incoming cut damage that will be reduced. Reducing cut damage does however inflict blunt damage to you.

Cut resistance efficiency determines how much blunt damage you will suffer.

The damage that bypasses the cut resistance (i.e. if you have 40% cut resistance, the other 60%) will move onto the next layer of armour if available on the body part, such as a mail shirt.

The blunt damage that results from resisting cut damage will be directly applied, ignoring any other layers.

So, for example: Say you are wearing a Specialist grade Samurai chestpiece with 70% cut resistance and 90% cut resistance efficiency as well as a Masterwork grade Rusty Chainmail with 40% cut resistance and 60% cut resistance efficiency and you get hit with an attack that would normally deal 20 cutting damage, your calculation looks like this:

Your Samurai armour is 70% cut resistant, so it directly resists 14 points of cutting damage. It has a very high cut resistance efficiency of 90% so those 14 points of damage are converted into 1.4 blunt damage.

6 points of damage have bypassed your Samurai armour and are now hitting your Rusty Chainmail. This Chainmail has 40% cut resistance, meaning you resist 2.4 points of cutting damage. The Chainmail also has 60% cut resistance efficiency, so those 2.4 points of cut damage are converted into 0.96 points of blunt damage.

In the end, your 20 cutting damage attack inflicts you with 3.6 points of cutting damage which have entirely bypassed your armour as well as 2, 36 points of blunt damage which has been converted when resisting the cut damage. This damage will then further be modified by your toughness.

The major take-away from this is the following: Your outer layer of armour (that is, headwear, chest armour and legwear) should favour high cut resistance efficiency because otherwise you may suffer a considerable amount of blunt damage. It's better to sacrifice a bit of cut resistance on your outer layer if it means significantly improving your cut resistance efficiency because at the end of the day, a small amount of cutting damage is a pretty easy fix, you just slap a bandage on it and pretend it never happened, whereas blunt damage only slowly heals over time.

An easier way of calculating strength requirement is that your strength should be double the weight of the weapon.

Holy shit! I didn’t realize that lowering stats through modifiers made them easier to train. Thanks for the tip!

Tip for Strength training: once fully encumbered follow Gecko at the Hub in the border zone and you can essentially afk train.

Consider the following armor, non stealth, combo for the 'best' protection incl. Acid/ / fire:

Crab helmet, crab armor, Samurai heavy pants, leather turtleneck shirt and wooden shoes (always, always, always).

There is a steam workshop 'fix' for armor too that changes the way the % works, making it realistic. Because the default is broken.

When you have 2 melee weapons equipped how does the game decide which to use? Is it a strictly indoor vs outdoor thing or will the game always pick the best weapon for the enemy and location of the fight?

not bad, would be better if the examples you gave matched the pictures on the screen
