Biden Says Americans Are Entitled to a $15 Minimum Wage

President-elect Joe Biden on Friday called for trillions of dollars in immediate further fiscal support, including increased direct payments, in the wake of a continuing wallop to the economy from Covid-19 that saw U.S. payrolls drop for the first time since April.

“The price tag will be high,” Biden said of his planned package in Wilmington, Delaware. He promised to lay out his proposals next Thursday, before taking office on Jan. 20. “It will be in the trillions of dollars.”

Biden invoked images of the unemployed waiting in long food lines and added a dire warning: “If we don’t act now, things are going to get much worse and harder to get out of a hole later.”

Biden made the call for new assistance -- including $2,000 stimulus checks -- after an unexpectedly poor December jobs report that reflected a plunge in restaurant employment. The 140,000 slump in payrolls highlighted how surging coronavirus infections are taking a greater toll on parts of the economy.

While the Democrats are set to control both houses of Congress after Biden takes charge, private economists see any new stimulus package falling short of multiple trillions of dollars. The 50-50 partisan split in the Senate will make a more ambitious proposal challenging to pass, testing the new president’s sway over lawmakers from his party and his ability to influence Republicans.

Raising the minimum wage does not fix the livability of non skilled workers. It just makes it harder on everyone.

15 dollars per hour for the US minimum wage is delusional : 2020 GSP per capita
Luxembourg GDP per capita 109602 dollars, minimum wage 2720 dollar with 17 USD per hour
USA GDP per capita 63051, minimum wage 2400 at 15 USD per hour (Biden's "idea").
The USA have over 40% less GDP per capita yet you want to pay people on the near same level as Luxembourg which is over 40% on average per person.

109602 divided by 63051 is 0.57 which is 57% of Luxembourg's GSP per capita.
0.57 x 17 USD per hour (Luxembourg's minimum wage) would be 9.69 dollar per hour minimum for the USA.

USA wanting the living standard as the richest countries in the world by person on average yet having not even 60% of the economical power of Luxembourg by person.
And like in every country, the more you raise the wages the more most things will raise, rents, home prices, food, car prices, ticket prices

Just you get an idea in Luxembourg country a flat of 880 sqft (80m2 with 3 rooms in total) costs 1.2 million dollar new and dollar old in the whole country on average and 1.7 million US dollars old to 2.5 million US dollars new in the city depending on location on average.

Ridiculous 15 dollars per hour for the USA in 2021. Maybe in 2030 after inflation.

If you don't couple it to inflation it will go the way of the current federal minimum wage.

Please, just look up what an increased minimum wage will do to the economy. Look up "higher minimum wage effect economy." Form your opinion according to things you read from reputable sources, not from random people on the internet. Thank you for your time

The 15 dollar minimum wage might seem nice at first but when prices rise, then 15 dollar minimum wage will feel like the minimum wage we have now and you're back to square one

The federal Minimum wage has been 7.25 since 2009, inflation rises at an average of 2% a year. No one in this country can live anywhere in this country working 40hrs a week on the Minimum wage. Taxes are concerning yes but every year taxes rise for no good reason and we still lay down and take it for free.

You're going to see employers cutting back jobs and hours and modernizing fast-food restaurants that don't really need an employee to take your order. I've retired, so I don't have a dog in this fight, but it'll be interesting to sit back and watch this happen. It won't be funny because a lot of people are going to get hurt by these vote-buying tactics.

Yea, that minimum wage doesn't mean a damn thing when the damn hot fries that used to cost a mere dollar over a decade ago, now cost about $2.30..we need more jobs, not this scam

If you are an adult with a family you should NOT be working at a McDonald’s as a cashier. It is a low skill entry level job for young people

Marginal workers that can't work super fast will be left out in the cold. Good companies already give raises to the faster workers. The real problem is that companies refuse to give full time hours and affordable health benefits. Rent control is needed where price gouging is a problem.

My employer said she ready to hand out the pink slips!!! Then the few people she will keep will see there hours cut to 25 hours a week. This is what Target is doing right now. The funny part is in my state the governor said will not change the welfare standards to get food stamps so in my state you have to make less than $1200 a month get food stamps. Well at 20 hours a week $15 your not getting food stamps. No choice but to get a second.
