Here's how to make a McDonald's-style Egg McMuffin at home but 10x better.

Step 1: Prepare the Meat
Ingredients:
- (1 pkg) Thick Sliced Turkey (or similar)
- (2 tbsp) Butter
- (1) Mason Jar Lid
Whether you're using turkey, pork, or a meat substitute, you must get a thick cut. That's very important for a good, flavorful breakfast sandwich.
Using your mason jar lid, cut out a perfect circle of meat to mimic a class Egg McMuffin style.
Heat your pan over medium and add in the butter. Once that melts, add your breakfast meat and weigh it down with a saucepan full of water or meat press to ensure equal caramelization.
Flip and tilt your pan to the side so you can start basting that delicious brown butter. Weigh down once more before removing and setting aside.
Step 2: Toast the Muffins
Ingredients:
- (1 pkg) English Muffins
Toast your English Muffins to your desired level of crispiness (I like mine extra toasted). Remove from the toaster and set aside.
Step 3: Prepare the Eggs
- (1 pkg) Eggs
- (1) Mason Jar Lid
- (1 tbsp) Butter or Oil (for frying)
Heat a griddle or pan to medium and place your mason jar lids or round cookie cutters in the center.
Add some butter or oil to the center. Crack your egg into the mold. I'm not going to break the yolk on these because I like them runny, but feel free to cook them over hard if you prefer.
Add some salt and pepper before adding a little water to your griddle and place a heat-safe bowl over your eggs to let them steam (or baste).
You'll know when they're done when the whites are perfectly set without any runny bits. Remove from the heat, flip over your molds, and pop your eggs out.
Step 4: Make the Sauce
Ingredients:
- (1 cup) mayo
- (1 tbsp) Roasted Red Jalapeño Ketchup (or similar)
- (1 tsp) Tobasco
- (1 tsp) Smoked Paprika
- (1 tsp) Chile de árbol
- Salt & Pepper
I know that McDonald's doesn't add sauce to theirs, but I'm a firm believer that every sandwich needs a sauce.
To a bowl add your ingredients and whisk together. If you're not a fan of spice, feel free to leave the chile de árbol out— but you know we don't skimp on the spice around here.
Step 5: Assemble the Sandwich
Ingredients:
- (3) English Muffins
- (3) Cooked Turkey Sausages
- (3) American Cheese Slices
- (3) Cooked Eggs
- Homemade Sauce
Lay out the bottoms of your English Muffins and spread some sauce on each one, making sure that the whole surface is coated.
Add your cheese slices on top and torch or toast to get it melty before adding your sausage, egg, and finally the top of your muffin. Serve and enjoy.
The most important thing is to have fun while you're cooking, no matter how it turns out. Food is the ultimate unifier— we all gotta eat, and most of us really enjoy doing it.
Do your best and be sure you're taking the time to enjoy the final product. Perfect is overrated.
