Using confounding language in scientific studies makes them more believable, but turns out it could all be a lie.

Misconduct Widespread in Retracted Science Papers, Study Finds
“Last year the journal Nature reported an alarming increase in the number of retractions of scientific papers — a tenfold rise in the previous decade, to more than 300 a year across the scientific literature.”

Why people fall for bullshit, according to a scientist
“Pennycook is the lead author of a new study wonderfully titled "On the reception and detection of pseudo-profound bullshit." In it, he and his colleagues asked questions no psychologists have touched on before. Such as: What makes a person a good bullshit detector? Why are some people more susceptible to bullshit than others?”

One of the best videos from DNews in a long time. And this is what I love about scientific minded people: they are willing to be self-critical because science is all about failing often until you find the right answer. On the other hand, it's usually harder for religious people to be critical of their own religious institution, due to dogma.

Both Science and Religion has caused me terrible anxiety that gives me haunting thoughts! I always try not to trust or follow either

This is the same reason I don't trust a car salesman who uses too many automotive terms.

"religious people are more likely to believe bullshit"
Really?

I am skeptical of anything that implies "Religious = Dumb"

I like how he uses the word "Bullshit". It's casual, genuine and to the point!

okay, so at the end of the video it said ''click here to watch'' i was interested to watch and thus clicking on it, but did not realise it actually paused the video and does not bring you to that video, I waited for legit 1 minute thinking that it was still loading and buffering XD

we spend half our lives learning big words to appropriately convey a thought, and the other half trying to remember how to put those thoughts into laymen's terms lmao

People need to remember this when ever they argue about evolution or global climate change.

I think studies with so much emotion and energy, and simple words are the most honest. They're not trying to so much persuade you as they are trying to just open your eyes to the big picture or real issue.

The only thing to disprove a scientist is a better scientist.

I'm surprised she hasn't brought up anything on the opposite end of the spectrum - people whose language isn't "fancy enough".  When your vocabulary in a paper is limited, people are less likely to take you seriously, even if you made a solid point.  It's all about finding the right balance.

I think this episode was very entertaining, you know, it kept my attention totally. I'm not sure if the programme always had background music but I think this is the difference from the previous ones
