I think drink and drugs and mental health issues really took its toll on Daniel. I'm 43 and grew up with this band. It's a shame it came to such a sad end for such a great band.

YOUNG MODERN! Jesus Christ!, it literally says it on the CD cover on screen every time you say it mate! 😂😂

The “and” between “Young” and “Modern” and the replacing of the “s” with “x” in “especially” are destroying me lol

The current state of Guns N’ Roses is why I *wouldn’t* want Silverchair to reunite. You reach a certain age, you just can’t sing or play like you used to. Best to leave it alone rather than become self-parody.

Daniel is my favorite but the “but I’m an artist” thing makes me roll my eyes.

Daniel is basically a recluse now and I believe he wanted out of the fame of Silverchair not so much that he didn’t want to be with Ben and Chris. He’s often said he wanted to explore other genres. Also, to say his solo work doesn’t compare I think you need to look at awards he’s won since Silverchair. Also, you need to consider that Ben and Chris had nothing to do with the last 2 albums; Daniel wrote and composed all the songs himself. Ben also goes on in the book about royalties and how he thinks it should’ve been split equally, even though Daniel did most of the work. Watch old documentaries about them making the albums and you only see Daniel talking to the producers/mixers/etc while Ben and Chris goofed off. It’s like giving everyone an A on a group project when only 1 person did the work. Ben also stated how Daniel never wanted to be frontman but because he sang the best it was essentially forced on him. Being the frontman makes you far more noticeable and it got the point that Daniel wouldn’t leave his home when he was off tour due to people being horrible to him, even in his hometown. If you pay attention to his lyrics you can hear him breaking down with every album. So while he hides away from the fame that always haunted him, Ben is still chasing that high and taking Chris with him. Ben has been known to do a few reality shows and now a “tell all” book. Daniel was in it for the music, Ben was in it for the fame, Chris was in it for friendship.

I always thought Diorama was their best work. Miss these guys so much. Silverchair along with bands like Stone temple pilots, Alice in chains, Lit, were the soundtrack to my 90's.

Clickbait: Silverchair has been done for YEARS even before the documentary, it's very well known that Daniel and the drummer basically hate each other.

Hi, it's Mike from Canada.
I really want to thank you for your perspective on the Silverchair.
So much to unpack.
Thank you very much and take care

It's 2023 and were talking about Silverchair. That's food on them regardless.

Daniel will never go back to Silverchair to many bad memories. Diorama told the story but all his song do but Daniel was so happy when he was in the Dissociatives with Paul Mac. I never seen him happy like that. I love Daniel futurenever was a #1 hit the album is 🔥

Well, many of us deal with our trauma better as young adults and early 20's, the use of substances actually starts being routine, routine turns to lifestyle and heavy dependence abd if youre unfortunate addiction. Dan has demons and when he woke up having crashed his car into another vehicle
, not seriously but hurting the other cars passengers was it 2022? He went into rehab and was in there a lot of months working on himself. Ive prayed for his sake for his sobriety, Dans peace and self empowerment. It wont be Silverchair, everone can and ahould move on. Daniel took reactive arthritis heavily acknowledged as coexisting with acute anxiety disorder. Hes traumatised against live playing full stop, doesnt wanna be an "artist who tours" plays live, let it be, leave it...enjoy ALL THE MUSIC from the dissociatives to Future Never whic is EPIC.
...Tells of his struggles with fame, anxiety, being used by people. Natalie, self confesses he was the Love of her life. She tried getting it back on track it couldbt happen she said she will never feel like that again and its a v special time. Dan unfortunately seemed to be getting deeper into substance use to cope with the "Limelight" as a traumatised person myself you dont believe in yourself enough to think you will be a good parent until it happens...and you are an excellent Parent, better than yours were as we have much more tools at our fingrtips to cope. Dan needs respect & Privacy and to amyone who didnt give music after YM a try you are seriously missing out. Talk is excellent as is The Disociatives yet the Master Piece is Future Never. Fan since 2020 so judging all music from a neutral point. Excellent music from 1995, go and enjoy it all. Leave Dan alone. Annorexia Nervosa, Reactive Arthritis, Acute Anxiety and Dissociative Disorder. If you cant grasp that the guy is scared by performing live then you need a heart transplant or empathy schooling. Read up on the conditions. He was in a wheelchair, his body screaming "stop Ive had enough" ~ Natalie was a gem. A true Love. The one who got away maybe. Hindsight these people live in peace. Ps Author, you are not what you do, Mr Joannou may tell you himself hes the happiest he has ever been. Dont judhe someone with disability, cancer survivor, etc, were all living a better more authentic life now. His job sounds ace. Ben, oh Ben, as we grow we also grow apart from childhood best friends. Unfortunately you may have to accept that you guys are past tense. Though alot of you men mellow out age 50 plus. Lets all just wish them good health. Thank them for the music and live our own lives. 🎉❤

I really wish they went into the metal scene, rather than the sappy indie stuff. I really envisioned Daniel to put on some bulk, get some angst and showcase some of his strong masculinity driven creativity. What we get instead is the opposite of this sadly. AS a lad coming of age, Silverchair were what we all aspired to be like, they helped us get into music and play some band instruments etc. It looked like they were going to head down the heavier misical direction and we'd be seeing them play along side other bands like fear factory, bullet for my valentine, or even the like sof slipknot or mudvayne, but honestly they fell short in my book to that expectation. In any case, we'll always have Frogstomp; an album that I can comeback to and imagine alternate universes where they did not choose the destiny they did but one where they could reach their full potential and cement them in the same vein as other past Aussie rock bands like ACDC, Parkway drive, the Amity Affliction or Northlane. I get the same feeling thinking on what became of silverchair as I do when I think about Heath Ledger from an Australian perspective. There is a disconnect to what I imagine should have been, over what has become. Contrarily, I love what Sunk Loto are doing now... this is what I wish Silverchair would try.

I was able to accept other band's evolutions. I accepted Corrosion of Conformity turning from a crossover thrash/hardcore band into a Southern metal band. I didn't mind Radiohead going from angry Brit pop to experimental electronica and back to angry Brit pop. But for some reason I never accepted Young Modern Silverchair. Silverchair sounded best when they were being heavy, and I'll die on that hill.

if the bassist and drummer aren't resentful losers they can start a new band. Lots of great bands start over with new members and new songs.

I can’t find my original comment so I’ll just say again, Neon and Ballroom and Dio and Rama were the best touring eras. IMHO. Freak and show were also very good high energy shows.

i wont talk bad about their later music...i personally do not like Daniels music....i do respect them all as artists . but for me Frog Stomp and Freak Show will forever be "SILVERCHAIR" . just that moment in time was so special for me.

Daniel got pretty weird. But he’s more of an artist now and I can respect that
