My Australian Shepherd and I moved from the US to Australia a couple months ago...she's the only Aussie in the whole neighborhood and people always ask me why she's called an Australian Shepherd if she's from California...now I have an answer for them 🤣

Well, i am Australian and my great great grand father came here from Germany, he worked as a shepherd, eventually having a sheep farm, so he was a German shephard, my father was an Australian shepherd
Turns out, mum's family come from Alsace!!

Okay, "Land of Pigeons" is actually true, it's not a joke, North America was home to the single most prolific pigeon ever to exists, the Passenger Pigeon, who at the height of their prolificity number somewhere between three to five billion.

Not million, BILLION, three to five billion birds, a single nesting site in Wisconsin was estimated to contain more then 130 million pigeons, in 2, 200 km2.

The Passenger Pigeon was almost certainly the single most prolific bird ever to exists, amount to something like 40% of all Birds wintering in the US.

And the Americans wiped the entire specie out in some two hundred years or so, the last Passenger Pigeon, Martha, an endling or terminarch (technical term for last member of a specie) died in Cincinnati Zoo in 1914.

So yes, North America was indeed, the "Land of the Pigeons" until 1914.

Fun fact, they were named Australian Shepherds bc they took a liking a some Australian Shepherds (the humans not the dogs lol), so they were named Australian Shepherds!!
