Very useful! Thank you. I do feel as if the tension on the SM4 keys is a bit tight, and this helps. Anthony

I tried this on my SM9, and it seemed to work. Although not as drastic an adjustment, the action does feel lighter.

I did this on my 1957 SM-3, and it made the key touch lighter, and it also made the key throw longer. This is reducing the tension on the return springs, right? There are also a couple of bolts with lock nuts on the return spring anchor bar on my machine that act as a stop for the universal bar(?) that can be used to adjust the length of the key throw. I turned them in until the keys didn't contact the platen, then backed them off to where I just started getting a good imprint. It really changed the feel of the machine to shorten the key throw. Thanks.

Very handy. Thanks! Those slim little wrenches are very cool. What kind are they and where can I get them?

Thanks. My 1969 SM9 will adjust the same way but the slot is not visible under the screws. As soon as I loosened one side the tension drop the rack back. Then same on the opposite side.

There doesn't seem to be such a trick for lighter key action on the SM9, is it?

That wrench is bitchin, didn’t know they existed.
