I thought I would be a basket shift only typer...then a SM3 popped onto the scene. This will make it even more enjoyable to use! Thanks Duane!

Hey Dwayne, thanks for the videos! I recently purchased an SM7 and the only issue I haven't been able to figure out with your help is a sqeaking/grittiness in the shift on the last 1/3 of the motion. I can still get it to move all the way, but the last third requires more force. The first 2/3 of the motion is perfect, and the alignment seems fine. Any ideas what may be causing the issue? Thanks again!

Great tip! Really looking foward for your next video: I have a SM4 that makes the same squiky noise.

I have a problem with my SM7, the letter strikers are just short of hitting the rubber platen...

The whole carriage seems like it’s a little to loose and sits back to far, if I put my hand behind the carriage and pull it towards me and type at the same time the strikers hit the platen perfectly.

Is there an adjustment somewhere to tighten the carriage up so it doesn’t sit back so far and can be pulled towards the strikers???

My SM-3 has the same spring/nut adjustment for lift. However, how high you can lift the threaded post is limited by the tab adjusters. The amount of adjustment before contact reduced shift key effort significantly. One could easily modify the threaded posts for much more spring tension.

I have a Olympia sm4 but for some reason I can't get the courage to move all the way back. Any pointers on what I should do to check would be wonderful. Thank you

Hi there. I have an Underwood 3 Bank that has a carriage that wants to remain in the up-most position, as if you're shifting (but you are not in fact shifting). Is this controlled by the giant coil spring in the back? It looks too scary to adjust like it might shoot through a concrete wall if not careful, but I don't see any other issue that would be causing the problem. I hope you see this! You're my new best friend.

Is there a way to make the shift touch a little lighter on an Olympia SF or Olympia Splendid?
