You believe a doctor caused you harm in New York. During the course of finding out what happened and what went wrong, you learn that the doctor was not board-certified. What does that mean?

Becoming board certified is achieved by demonstrating a certain baseline level of competency in a medical specialty. Board certification is the highest certification a doctor can achieve in their specialty.

If the doctor is not board certified, it could be for one of two reasons.

It could mean that they simply do not have the necessary level of competence and knowledge to pass the board certification examinations. Alternatively, it could mean that they have not yet taken their board examinations.

In order to first qualify to take the board certification tests, a doctor must complete a residency training program. Once they have completed their program, they must then accumulate two years worth of actual clinical practice and experience before being allowed to sit for their examinations.

Hi Gerry, thanks for this informative session on a board certification program of a medical doctor. I work as a full time medical biller and a credentialing specialist for physicians in New York and Ohio. I need to know how frequently the board certified provide needs to appear for the test to maintain the validity of his board certification.

He forgot to talk about the expensive fee to take the test and then the hazing ritual after you pass where they spank you with a board. But he’s a lawyer so he probably didn’t know about those parts.
