I’ve been riding fifty years, many bikes, many miles, many places. Also been lucky enough to have bought three new ‘Stroms (‘09, ‘12, ‘15) and collectively abused them over 180 000 trouble-feee kilometers from the tundra of Northern Canada to the jungles of Central America. The ‘Stroms are far from perfect and they’re farkle monsters, but also, they’re likely the most practical, reliable and cost effective way to travel by motorcycle.

A front fender mod is critical for any mud.raise it up, eliminate it, whatever. I just had a very disappointing morning because under barely muddy conditions the underside of my fender on my 2023 locked up my front tire completely. Had to walk back home to get my truck and tools and scrape the underside of my fender. Great job suzuki! And yes the factory battalax tires are useless in the dirt! Very happy with my Michelin anakee tires!

Great video. I'm still riding my '09 and almost in 6 figure mileage. I have similar mods -- same tires, crash guard, modified skid plate, LED lights. I recently painted her with Rhino Liner and I love the way it looks. Also use Pivot Pegz and Mosko 80L luggage. I'm proud to be part of the Vstrom community.

I like how you keep your videos short. I think a great addition to a video like this though would be to have a walk around with your bike to really show off your mods.

@0:35 the 1050 usb socket is almost a direct replacement. It only needs a different plug to fit the existing one on the bike. That's also a good place to make a Y splitter cable to cleanly connect a GPS unit. The 3A fuse can easily handle both.

Totally agree with your statements, I have an old 650, and a 2year old thou, both brilliant machines and value for money.

One more. I upgraded the front brakes on my 2018 DL650 to Nissin calipers from a 2004 Honda CBR600, and I added a Nissin Master Cylinder. DRAMATICALLY improved the front brakes.

I know the very first mod I'll be making - getting the seat shop to take 30mm off the seat foam & reshape it for better comfort when touring 2-up.

Hi Gustaf, I'm Claudio, from Italy. Congratulations on your beautiful journey! I'm also thinking of buying a V-Strom 650. It's a beautiful bike. You appear to be very very tall (almost 2 meters maybe?) I am 1.85 meters tall. In your experience, is the V-Strom comfortable for someone who is tall like us? Thanks for your reply and have a nice trip!

Thank you for the video. Really looking closely at buying this as next bike. What are your favourite tall-person mods? Have you changed saddle, handle bar, pegs?
