I have owned a 2014 and have a 2016 f150 with 3.5 ecoboost. I definitely agree with oil separator for the first mod but second would FOR SURE have to be a tuner and an email tune (I went with livewire TS and unleashed for the tune). Third would be y-pipe, they actually have an amazing exhaust sound and lets a lot of heat out plus lots of flow (I went with afe off road lol). I find that none of the cat-backs sound decent plus there really isn't much of an improved flow compared to modifying further upstream. From what i have read getting a dry drop in performance filter and leaving the rest stock is just as good (as far as hp gains ) as the cold air kits.

I absolutely love this "project" truck! I was a huge fan of the F-150 until I started looking into the EcoBoost engine and realized how much of a difference there is and how much better it ends up being.

If any of these aftermarket performance car parts sellers ever stopped shilling Cold air intakes and stuck to practical stuff that actually adds performance they would easily become the go to spot for people who want to actually maker their car/truck faster. I thought offering an oil separator first was a good touch, as that will actually help preserve your engine, the cat back & intake tho aren't really going to give a lot of HP/TQ even when modded, catback maybe gives an extra 5hp. Cold air intake is almost snake oil sure it gives a louder sound, but its been proven over and over on many different cars that stock intakes are light years better then what was on early 90s-80s and prior cars, ford, chevy etc spend huge amounts of time and money into developing efficient intake systems on modern cars and are optimized to draw in the most amount of cold air right off of the front of the hood, put those things on a dyno and you will see no gain with an intake, tune for tune mod for mod.

Was happy to run into this video because I’ve been wondering about the oil separator everyone I ask on the street did not have a clue what I was talking about thanks for this video👍🏾

Have had my new 2017 3.5 with 10 speed transmission and it is awesome. Have around 4k Miles on her and I average 20-21 mpg mix City and highway. Can't wait to do a long road trip and see what she can do. Absolutely love this truck. No reason for a V8 except for noise. Lmao

The catch can pulls condensation from your engine, not oil. (There is a taint of oil) but it is not the oil that is rough on the injectors, the h2o is.

I like my 3.5 eco, but frankly I’m still waiting to hear an exhaust that I think sounds good. Until then it’s stock for me.

nice. I have a 2015 Platinum F150 with 3.5 EB. I don't plan on changing the exhaust system because they sound crappy. but I plan to go with CAI, Catch Can, and a Tune. if I can make over 425+hp and over 460LB ft torque, then I'm good

I was all set up to thumbs down this video because I saw the afe CAI when you said the first modification should a catch can. Great recommendation, thumbs up!

The oil separator should be installed at the Ford factory.

Just read an article that said the Ecoboost has included port injection in the Gen 2 since 2017. Wouldn’t that eliminate the need for catch can?

one thing we need is proof that exhaust and a cold air intake to replace the factory cold air intake actually does anything for performance and for the cost associated with these upgrades it better be more than 4hp.  I think we all know without a tune none of these parts give you any real power.  Please prove me wrong with some dyno charts.  btw i have owned more than one ecoboost and love the motor but any aftermarket exhaust just sounds like trash.

The newer Ecoboost have direct injection AND port injection. The port injection cures the build up problem.
The problem is also more likely in colder climates.
Here in the Arizona desert I don't think it is going to be much of a problem.

Interesting, the first mods for a Gen 1 Raptor was all about off roading, lightning, winch, bigger shocks, air compressor. First mods for a Gen 2 Raptor is all about street performance, CAI, Exhaust, Tunes, ICs.

What kind of fuel efficiency for normal driving can you expect to see with those five upgrades ? obviously with your foot in it you’ll see quite Less just curious for daily driving thanks

i have just under 130, 000 miles on my 2012, and i was looking at the SCT x4 w/MPT tunes but ive heard tuners are "engine killers"and with my miles i was wondering if its a bad idea

Top 5 modifications, save your money for when you need a timing chain, oil pump, turbos, rear end, cam phasers

Skip the intake and the catch can and go with a water/meth injection kit, upgraded coils, and plugs. The stock intake pulls in much colder air from the fender well outside the hot engine bay and more than enough for any safe level of boost. You’ll be about 60hp ahead of this guy for the same money.
