What is the First Law of Thermodynamics?

Is there more information regarding the relationship between the first law of thermodynamics and cosmic expansion?

3:30 perhaps its a good idea to explain that is "useful work" in the context of "losing heat energy to the room". Basically, whatever "you want" is useful. If you were trying to heat up the room, then the energy given to the room would be "useful" and that used to create motion would be "wasted"!
