Kids today will never know the struggle of trying to dial into a radio contest with a rotary phone 😂

40 years from now, there will be a video called 'Two 17 year olds try to dial on a cell phone'.

"We did it!!!" - his elation on accomplishing this task, but not knowing that he really accomplished nothing because the handset is still on the base.

Back in the day people would be zipping those dials around like nobody’s business!

The young discovering the old is just as entertaining as the elderly discovering the new

Dude, the picking up and putting down the phone AFTER trying to dial the numbers was the best part 🤣

I laughed so hard.. Whenever they dialled a number and wanted to start all over again they'll pick up the phone and hang up. As if its a "restart" option 😂

I love how they kept picking up the receiver and putting it down like to start over. HYSTERICAL!!

I have a 1936 Bakelite phone that is my main phone in the living room, kitchen area. I ordered pizza one night, the delivery boy ended up getting lost, his cell phone died, and he called me from a local store asking for directions again And...this was only his 2nd day on the job. Once he got here...he asked to use my phone, and without even thinking I pointed to the rotary dial.

He let out this sigh like people do when they give up....lol...and the despair in his voice was funny ... although I knew he was having a bad day as he said "I don't know how to use this kind of phone"
I told him how and he dialed his work place to let them know...but the first thing he said when his co worker picked up was: "Dude! Guess what kind of phone I'm using! You should see how you have to dial it!"

LOL. I gave the poor kid a $10.00 tip. Mostly because I felt guilty about laughing at him. :P But, also I can remember having days when nothing went right...and for him that phone seemed to be his last straw. He left happier than when he came in with the pizza.

How fitting was it to see the muggle electronic being used by an obvious magical family. Don't feel bad, I was giving a trunk load of things by my great great grandpa and it was only when my husband's grandpa came to visit that I found out I have been using most of them incorrectly.

In fairness to the kids, it would probably take me longer than this to learn how to use, say, an XBox controller.

Love how they pick the receiver up and put it back down to "reset" it lmao

Today's youth knows nothing about a good phone slamming.

You know what I really miss back then ...doing prank calls as a kid as there was no call display or no tracing yet lol

We loved what's with all the holes and them picking up the receiver to restart. These boys were good sports. Very funny 😅

I grew up using a rotary phone . I would call the radio station and win all kinds of competitions and prizes. There was no redial button, so you had to be fast. Another thing these kids will never get to enjoy is the satisfaction of slamming down the phone when you were angry at someone = PRICELESS!

OMG! Every time they "reset" the phone I had tears rolling down my face!

Reminds me of the time I learned about fuses that blow - instead of fuses that trip - during an especially frigid New England Family Christmas gathering at a family member’s old Victorian house. “You’ll overload the circuit” warned my grandfather. “Big deal”, I returned “if the breaker trips, I’ll deal with it!”. And when it did, I had to go four floors down, outside, and shovel 3 feet of snow to get to the cellar, to get to the fuse box. As I stared with bewilderment at the many different colored knobs inside the rusty box in the dustiest corner of the coldest cellar I had ever been in my life, I realized I would need to stalk back through the crisp winter night for instructions.

...and I remember feeling just as confounded as those boys felt when they first saw that telephone.

The funny part is, I don’t think anyone reminded me to correct the overload before I replaced the fuse… and it took just long enough for me to get tucked into my warm snuggly bed for the fuse I replaced to blow again later that evening. God bless you for this video 😆 I am a definite advocate for passing on the knowledge and experience of how things used to work, lest I never under-appreciate how far we have all come.

The main phone on my house is a rotary one. It's an antique but still works. Its so satisfactory to hang up on that thing
