It's not just WHAT to learn, but also HOW to approach it effectively to avoid slow improvement. Good luck!

I've been averaging around 30 for a while now, and I feel like the biggest hindrance for me right now is my f2l recognition time

Almost every Youtube video I'm watching starts with at least a full minute of annoying Intro stuff. You started this one right away and I Love it! I wish every Video was like that. :-)

I was at university in the early 80s and bought a cube when they first came out. At the time, there was a printed list of algorithms available which I just learned - probably around 12 in total. After about 2 months, I could just do the first layer without any particular algorithms and then 2nd layer edges, yellow cross, position yellow edges, position corners and rotate corners one at a time. I could solve the cube like this in under 1 minute more than 50% of the time. If I got lucky, it could be 40-50s. A tricky solve would be up to 1:30. This was with a standard cube, no lube. More algorithms make it quicker, but I can't learn that many now - in fact I use fewer, just repeating them (eg. for the yellow cross). I can still mange sub 1 minute, having added some additional techniques from these videos. How speed cubers manage sub 4s is just iinsane.

I watched this when my average was about 1 min and I was like: wow, I’ll never be sub-30!

Now I am, thanks jperm :)

JPERM thank you very much for making this video. This video is what I needed to stay motivated. My PB is 21.56 but my ao100/ao1000 have been stuck in the lower 30's for over a year. It is very frustrating. I appreciate all of your cubing insight and knowledge. Have a great day.

I spend more time on the cross than PLL and OLL

I’m fairly new to cubing. Maybe 4-6 months from my first solve to getting a better Cube and learning faster styles. This was one of the better videos I’ve seen and I will be utilizing this as I get more comfortable with 3x3.

I knew that I got pretty good (from my standards) on 3x3 but never had a time under 1min because of how bad my cube was, when I bought a good one I went from 2min30 to less than 1min, now it’s been 2-3 weeks since I practiced everyday and now im at a little less than 40 sec, wich im really proud about.

Thank you so much, all bcs of you

This is my go to video at the moment;

1. Watch video.
2. Practice for two weeks.
3. Watch video again.
4. Oooooh, that’s what he meant last time I watched it.
5. Slowly work towards <30.
6. Watch video again...

Before: turning fast but still sub-40

After: turning slow but sub-30

Thx J Perm

I was solving the 3x3 cube for about year, each time with the only beginner's method which I learned. And I had unintentionally practiced so much, that I forgot all the algorithms and my hands moved automatically. And I noticed this when I tried to teach the beginner's method to someone. Now, i am learning CFOP and trying to practice continuously so that I again build a new muscle memory for all the new algorithms that I learn.
