As someone who spins yarn, knits, crochets and weaves I absolutely love that Woody has his under the sea creature hats! Makes me smile and Gus shaking his head trying to hold a straight face is priceless!

As a father who was certified when I was 15 years old, became an instructor just to teach my son properly, this is the most reckless dive trip ever. He had no business taking that kid on any dive.

This just seems so reckless.

My dad is a master commercial diver, he always taught me plan your dive around the person in your group with the least experience.

When I was a teenager as excited dad was for me to get into diving, he always planned our dives around my skill level.

Woody: "I just want to talk about my cool hat and the fishes I talk to"
Gus: "Here's a depressing story instead!"

i really appreciate that u guys discuss these stories with respect for the deceased. *everyone* has made a reckless or uneducated decision at some point in their life, and many of us are lucky to still be here in spite of it. the less fortunate don't need to be mocked for it.

My 4 year old son recognizes Mr. Ballen (by face only, he’s not ready to actually listen to the strange, dark, and mysterious) because I watch him so often, but today, he saw this video and also said “oh, it’s Gus and Woody!” 😆😃 he sends his compliments to Woody’s hat.😂

So sorry to hear about that little man passing away due to his father's bad decision. Heartbreaking. Sorry to the family for your loss. Thanks to both of you and Mr.B for spreading awareness.

Because of 2 individuals untrained in cave diving dying in a cave I have dived in, I am finding it very difficult to get back in that cave. Also how terrible it must be for the family's of these 2 people. You guys nailed it!

I can't believe anyone would even consider diving there without proper cave training, let alone bring your son there who isn't even certified to dive open water recreationally. That just blows my mind. That poor kid didn't even want to go to begin with, but he trusted his dad and his dad let him down, and they both lost their lives because of the fathers poor choices. So sad, what a needless tragedy.

Here from MrBallen's channel. His diving stories always scare tf out of me as he's such an amazing story teller, I can picture all of it in my mind. The diving stories are probably the most anxiety-inducing tales. What about the story of the people who hadn't ever mapped the tunnels under a lake, but one day they allowed divers to open the gate and go down. A diver ended up drowning after he panic squeezed through a small opening and lost his sense of direction once he got into the big opening with lots of other tunnels. I recall they closed it back up, and it's still unmapped.

I remember this one from MrBallen’s channel. The diving stories always freaked me out but after you guys did your first reaction to one of John’s stories, I stuck around your channel. Now I feel more educated and less afraid of the whole idea of diving.

Wonderful thing about John Ballen is he is an experienced Naval diver. And the other wonderful thing is he is a great storyteller.

First it was pink. Now it's crazy hats. And I'm here for Woody's fashion choices!

to take your 15 year old kid who doesn't have _any_ dive certifications ? that is the height of negligence on the part of the parent.

As a father, I would never put my son in such an unsafe situation unless we were both highly trained and ready

This is such a sad story. It was also one of the first Mr Ballen/dive stories I watched that led me down the rabbit hole to Dive Talk!

I feel so bad for the kid and his family. It must be so complicated to grieve the fathers death since he was also responsible for the death of the son. And to lose two family members at the same time? Terrible 😢
