Mercury (Hg) Poured Through a Screen - Weird STATIC Effect -SCIENCE

Показать описание
Did you know that breaking droplets of fluids into drops will cause static to be generated? This is true even for mercury. As the droplets are broken up, and the droplet fall through the air, the droplets are charged with static electricity. The very heavy droplets can be seen flying OUTWARD as soon as they leave the screen. It's very like what you'd see when you take two magnets and face the same poles toward each other.

What does mercury do when it is poured through a strainer? People have asked me to do this for over a year.

I've always wondered what mercury would look like poured through a strainer. It looked just like mercury being poured through a strainer. Absolutely amazing.

Hey Jeff, does the mercury leave a residue behind onto the surfaces it comes in contact with? So once you use something to hold mercury is it no longer food safe forever?

I was going to ask what it would look like if you poured mercury with water already in the cup. But the water vortex video sort of answered my question. Mercury is a truly fantastic element. Keep up the good work

what do you do to the items that have been in mercury afterwoods? do you get rid of it?

do you check for mercury spills/contamination after the experiments or do you just eyeball it?

I like your mercury videos. Does mercury leave a dangerous residue? For sake of argument, could you give the strainer to a child to play with right after pouring mercury through it? If not, would there be an easy way to decontaminate it?

Almost looks like a sprinkler shooting out liquid metal, very cool!

That's really interesting that the last bit had enough surface tension to stay in the strainer until you shook it loose.

That sound is just the weirdest but coolest thing ever

Place the mercury insides a hallow rodin coil made out of an aluminum based metal alloy. Induce an electric current into the rodin coil and observe the effects.

That looked a lot more interested than I thought it would. You never know what you will see when you check out the high speed video.

ive always wondered, if anything comes in contact with mercury is it then contaminated. for example that strainer? would it be permanently contaminated now?
