I have one, admittedly with a slight markup, but man is it a blast to drive. I have to agree with a lot of points made here. Even in the dense city of Los Angeles, I find joy in driving this thing around and it never disappoints.

The only car Ive ever bought that doesn’t make me feel “guilty” buying it as a 2nd vehicle

This car is such an absolute beauty. I bought one in this colour (sapphire blue) and when the light is right it's such a handsome car.

This is what Toyota should use for their commercials. I am basically drooling for one of these now. Well done!

Solid review. I traded in my old E90 M3 when I bought my 2013 BRZ and rarely thought anything of it. I loved the lightweight feel, the ability to really drive it every day, and the idea of a sports car that still got decent gas mileage. It even got me back into autocross. I got my '22 BRZ as soon after waiting 6-months after my order (and under MSRP; don't pay mark up) and love all the improvements they've made with this gen. The torque dip of yesteryear is far less noticeable but still slightly present. It makes a huge difference in the low-end and I don't feel as if one must thrash the car to get into the power band.

The flat boxer engine is a huge added bonus. It keeps the center of gravity low which adds to the handling.

Just a fyi, the new 2nd gen actually makes ~215 wheel horsepower & ~175 wheel torque (based on the average dyno tests that many stock owners have done). So that translates to ~250hp (instead of 228) & ~190lbstq (instead of 184). Also, the max torque kicks in at a way lower rpm than 1st gen’s (3, 700rpm vs 6, 400rpms).

Thanks for the great review. It's nice that these kinds of cars are even still available to buy.

Manual is the correct choice with this car. It’s a wonderful choice for learning stick. Also, the power-band is improved from the BRZ and 86! To sum it up: get a manual, drive as a daily, keep it for as long as you can.

I love this car SOOO MUCH! To me this and the MX-5 represent all of the hope we have left to get fun drivers cars! And this is my favorite of the bunch 🥰❤️

I deeply, deeply love the 86 ❤️😩

I really do appreciate the rawness of the car in such a computerized world. Not really a fan of the engine but being built by subaru I guess it's to be expected. If I can ever find a 6 speed premium in red for msrp or below I'll own one. If not, well I probably won't.

Just sold my heavily modified 335i and I'm about to pick one of these up. Pretty hype. After I get used to the power difference, I think I'll have a blast. Definitely excited to get into something light! The 335i feel kind of boaty, easily 600lbs heavier than this car.

Thank you for the wonderful review! You convey the essence of the car without boring the viewer with the often usual endless contemplation of each individual switch, the trunk or the back seats. Simply perfect.

I actually enjoy driving the GR86 more than my other sports cars that have double the power and triple the price.

Don't put down the automatic or people who drive them. I lost part of my foot and ankle for this ungrateful country and I cannot clutch it. The automatic is just fine.

That crazy “snap, crackle, pop” you speak of is pervasive in the California city in which I live.
