I'd say the only thing that's a must is the bookbag it's 3x to 4x more weight then the leaf bag u can make

It's a great beginners guide for new players, thanks for your hard work Jade :)
Personally I would select items before leaving the ship in the following order:

1. Navy Jacket, this is so OP that it will pretty much make you immune to weather + it has 15 armor which is 3 times the amount of the best that currently can be crafted, and it can be repaireed later in the game.
2. The iron flint, simply because there is nothing more annoying than failing to start a fire too often, also I am on day 100 and it still has almost 100 hp left, as far as I know you cannot currently repair anything made of iron, but this last a very long time.
3. The leather backpack, I know it enables you to carry a good amount of weight, but pretty early on you can craft a hide backpack that only has 6 kg less load + you will at some point unlock the leather backpack crafting recipe.

I would never pick any of the iron tools or weapons, they don't last long, you cannot repair them, and early on they are not really needed, so in my opinion they are a waste to choose, but again this is how I personally see, it which also is in line with what the most experienced players say :)

I don't recommend the metal weapons there is a easy way to kill any animal it's timing and the timing window in this game is huge just hold the attack button until the strength meter is red and attack when animal charges u they will run away and try again just do this twice maybe up to 4 times and bam animal is dead without even getting hit and there is a ton of stone I have 60 massive stones and 60 regular stones

A pity basic stuff is not easy to find. It took me 5h to find the liame to make the workbench and still don´t have found ´big branches´. Do you get them from cutting leafy trees?

Hey, I was about to get the game but saw it had a phobia warning about spiders etc, my question is are they a enemy type or just like ambient critters or something? I have pretty severe arachnophobia
