Senior Prom Promposal Gone Wrong - I Got Rejected!

Right around the end of March or early April - springtime - high schoolers, especially seniors, start planning for prom. Even though Anthony's senior prom wasn't until the last week in May, all the kids at his school were already making plans about who they were going to ask to prom, and how they were going to do it, coming up with crazy and elaborate promposals.

Anthony, a planner, figured out who he wanted to ask, and made sure he had a back-up just in case his first choice rejected him. The first girl he wanted to ask was a Junior that he had talked to a lot at parties and who he had lunch with every once in awhile - he liked her a lot.

After school Anthony went to CVS and bought poster board and magic markers, brought it all home and got to work - the promposal sign was good to go!

The day he was planning on asking her to prom 2018, her friends and a bunch of other people found out what he was planning. He had only told one person, so it was pretty obvious who had let his secret out. Those people went to that same friend and told him to warn Anthony that if he asked this girl out, she was going to say no and reject him - she was already planning on going with somebody else.

So, even though he felt a little bit down about the fact that his first choice was already spoken for, he picked himself up and was thankful that he had a backup! His backup was a sophomore who Anthony thought was a lot prettier than the first girl anyway, but they had hardly ever spoken to each other and only shared one class together - gym. Still, he felt like he had a good chance - and he told a couple of his close friends about his plans. A bunch of kids overheard him telling them, and this one kid came over and told him not to ask the girl out because he would get dumped. Anthony told him to mind his own business, but inside, it made him a little nervous for sure.

The next day, with flowers and his sign, and his best friend, he headed out to prompose, blasting the Red Hot Chili Peppers and getting psyched up - to the gym for when she got out of class.

He was feeling anxious and excited at the same time! He got his sign and flowers and stood outside the gym doors, waiting, while his friend stood on the side to watch and cheer him on.

Finally class ended and people started to come out of the building. As they walked out they saw Anthony with his promposal sign and flowers and they wished him luck, patted his back, gave him thumbs up and crowded around to watch. His heat started pounding faster and faster, when suddenly, one of the girl's friends saw him outside and started laughing, and pointing. Anthony's heat sank. What had gone wrong?

The girl never came to or through those doors, instead, she snuck out the back door using her friend to shield her and block her from view. After everyone had given up and left it was just Anthony and his friend standing there.

Anthony was so upset as he drove back home. He wanted to tear up his sign and trash the flowers - but he didn't. Later he was hanging out in his room, feeling pretty down, when that girl, his backup who had snuck out of the gym, DM'd him on Instagram, saying that she heard he was planning to ask her to prom, and that she was flattered but didn't feel like she knew him well enough to go with him. She was actually really cool and nice about it, and it made him feel better.

Of course, when he went back to school on Monday everybody knew what had happened, and they all talked and gossiped about it. He let it roll right off his back and didn't let it bother him. He went to his senior prom with a friend (a girl), and he had a great time!

The most important thing he learned was that even though things didn't work out as he had originally hoped and planned, he kept trying, and in the end, making his best effort to have fun, he brought someone he really knew and liked and had an amazing and memorable prom night. Even though it was one of those prom fails or promposal fails, it was a great experience for him.

I totally understand, but usually most girls don't like getting asked out in large crowds. It's just hard especially if you don't like the person back.

Can we appreciate how calm this guy was?
He got rejected but he didn't even get mad

I’m actually proud that he handled that rejection maturely

Also, I laughed when he said the backup was prettier than the first girl

Awwwwh! It was good how he just dealed with it and moved on! In my school, people full on still go on about whatever dumb thing had happened from 150 years ago and still fight about it. The world should have more people like this guy!

This is one of the reasons I plan to chill at home and not go to prom.

That and no one will ask me

#netflixwouldneverrejectme

Update: so I skipped my prom and decided to watch Netflix instead. I have no regrets

Moral of the story is prom is entirely superficial so don’t get worked up over a stupid dance that you’ll barely remember after next week. You’ll probably have a much better and more memorable time at the after party anyways.

I felt bad for him until he said ‘who was prettier than the first girl’ and ‘backup plan’ he’s chasing people after looks .. I’m glad he got rejected he’s also lucky that the girl was nice enough not to embarrass him infront of everyone :)

Honestly, its bound to happen if you don't know the person you're "proposing" to well enough. The 2nd girl did the right thing - she didnt want to go and neither did she wanna embarass him too much so she dm'ed him later. It really wasn't her fault, she didn't want to say no to him in front of everyone...

*Let this be a lesson to many of you*, if you don't want to be rejected in front of the whole school and make it awkward between you and the person: at least get to know the person first and see if they like you! Know if they're planning on going to Prom! Then "propose" and GOOD LUCK ❤
