Do you get a concussion EVERY time you hit your head?

A minor bump to the head is highly unlikely to cause a concussion. It takes a significant amount of force for a concussion to occur. Here are some reasons why you might be feeling like a minor bump to the head has caused a concussion, though. This question came from a live Instagram Q & A that was done on January 29, 2020.

This was helpful, for someone who's had a concussion in the past, every little bump to my head I can feel anxious about so this was reassuring that I don't need to super overthink the little bumps

So I’m clear you are saying that even if you have had a diagnosis of concussion it will still take the same high level of force, 70-100 G’s to create another concussion? You wouldn’t be more susceptible to concussion after the fist therefore requiring lower forces to trigger another one?

Even just driving in a car makes my symptoms way worse. Every bump in the road messes me up. How can I ever heal if even just riding in a car exacerbates my symptoms? Every bump is a sub concussive hit for me. It’s been 3.5 years. I can’t just not ride in a car for years. This disease sucks so fucking bad.

I just found your page and your videos are so helpful! I have had PCS since I was in a car accident last year. One of my only symptoms are headaches. I was doing MUCH better but accidentally slipped running up a muddy hill recently and my symptoms came back :(. Both during the car accident and the slip I didn't even hit my head (I caught myself with my wrists), the force alone (acceleration-deceleration) was apparently enough to concuss me.

Love this video. Here I am as a physicist trying to calculate whether I got a concussion and turns out I think it’s my neck from a true hard hit not some weakly little head bump

I fell backwards into the bathwatds into the bathtub hitting my head twice on the back wall causing a call. I chose not to go to the hospital. 4 44ks later I fell from my walker unto a cement walk hitting my spine & banhing my head on the cement as well.
A ct scan proved I had a brain bleed.
It is now a complete 4 months later and still have concussion symptoms. I also have Associative Identity bDisorder. What can I expect as far as recovery!

What if you get a subconcussive impact a couple days after a concussion? Don’t subconcussive impacts cause slight damage as well, so can’t they exacerbate the concussion?

Hmm I got a concussion from whiplash without impact to head.

You said that minor bumps after a concussion are not enough to cause another one and I agree. However you acknowledged that you are more vulnerable to concussions in the first few weeks, so can a small hit cause another concussion during this recovery period. How much force would that theoretically take?

I walked into a door pretty hard. My forehead and knee took the brunt of the impact. Most definitely resulted in a headache and I'm hoping not a concussion. Thoughts?

6 weeks later after a concussion and I’m still going through symptoms. Not as bad but occasionally have had major pressure in my sinuses. I have “tapped” my head during this time. Is this hurting me?

I accidentally hit the to of my head on a car door with a helmet on this weekend. The hit wasn’t pretty hard. It was at least a minor bump. It doesn’t mean I will get a concussion?

Dr. Cameron, is a “ little bump “, that causes the same symptoms concussion, would you consider those sub-concussive hits if they caused symptoms?

Also, are uneven pupils ( with nausea, tiredness) from a little minor hit or bump to same side that got injured, which would not normally do anything prior to initial injury be of concern or the same a what your talking about in the video ?

Wish you were in my area. Thank you
