Not everyone can take advantage of the tax credit. I have built my own system taking 6 years and have $22K in it. With $4k per year I could not take any credit, I have my house paid off and no write offs, so $4k a year is all up to me. I am 99% off the grid and use only 35 Kwhrs per month (.56 /Kwhr) from Pacific Gas and Electric. $18 a month bill. My average monthly bill 2 years ago while totally on the grid was $92 per month. With inverters and charge controllers having limited lifespan, I will never break even with my system. Solar IS a scam, and the electric companies (at least in CALIF) are scamming us too. Of the hundred or so neighbors and people that I know, only TWO have professionally installed systems costing $40K each. The others cannot afford a system.

As gird electric jumps in cost more than it ever has. More people are going to solar. The electric companies jacking rates up will keep solar in business. And solar panels are coming down in price.

Personally being in cold environment I use lead acid batteries and super capacitor bank. So I can run power hungry tools and not have hard cycles on batteries. It's winter and lithium batteries die quick in the cold and can be damaged easily in the cold. Not all cycles on batteries are the same.

Why should taxpayers and consumers be forced to pay for something they don't want and that doesn't work. Those who want the shit can get it on their own.

"Inflation Reduction Act" is NOT misnamed. Renewables = lower cost energy (power customers have saved 10's of Billions in power costs in Texas alone, already, and our solar is just getting online now). BEVs = much lower transportation costs (fully converted light duty vehicle fleet, alone) will be worth roughly $1T/year cost reduction for transport, which is an %4 increase in efficiency of the entire economy, that's massive extra wealth creation with is a huge pressure against inflation).

It kinda suck. Panel only last 7 years. Investors burn out in about 5. Batteries well lithium will burn your house down or gell good for 7 years. Than you'll be buying new. So every 7 years 20000 on a new system

Most people want lights on when it's dark and the heat on when it's cold, in winter it's dark and cold all the time and then solar panels don't work.
