Beets (also known as Beetroot) should be a staple of every vegetable garden. They're really easy to grow from seed – and you don't have to wait long 'til harvest time.

Beets have quirky seed that produce multiple plants, so they need special aftercare to avoid overcrowding.

In this short video we explain some simple guidelines to help you harvest a bumper crop of beets this year.

If you love growing your own food, why not take a look at our online Garden Planner which is available from several major websites and seed suppliers:

Beet leaves are packed with potassium. Extract one whole beet, two apples, one carrot to make, and you can add some ginger if you like to make a juice pack with lots of vitamins.

My Mom was asking me how to grow them. I said "beets me" Now that I've got the Dad joke out of the way, I'm going to get some started in seed pods for this fall. I love beets and they're great for circulation and the liver. Never mind the pink pee XD it's harmless.

Beet greens and stems make a great fresh salad, said greens as the main ingredient.
The water beet roots are boiled in, are considered a juice in Mexico and served sweetened with a little sugar. I just drink it as is.
The plant is a bianual, flowering and producing seed the second year. Just like carrots.

This is my first year growing beets. Just harvested a few of them, i'm so proud of myself.
I grew them from seeds and can't wait to try a few recipes. 🥰

When I was a girl I loved the pickled beets my mom used to make. Now, although I still like pickled beets my favourite way to eat them is in beet brownies, which is also a great way to sneak a little veg into the children. :)

Great video! I'm harvesting beets here in New Brunswick. I use square foot gardening layout and my homegrown compost. Love to cook the beet greens.

Another good video. This is my first year. What I do with most of my seeds is place them between paper towels and put in plastic bags. I space them so they do not tangle and leave them and check after 1-2 days, They are that fact. I put my beets May 11 and are ready to put out today May 14. they were actually ready yesterday. As long as you plant them out early you do not have to harden off. This assures that you always get viable seeds, everyone takes because you put them in when germinated. Thank you

I like to juice the beets and mix with apple or cabbage juice; recently, I made kvass with one diced beet, it is very earthy and delicious.

New gardener here.
I am growing beets in a three gallon bucket.
Mostly it was so I could try the greens.
A delicious nutty flavor.

Next year I will sow direct underneath a plastic dome.

I bought the seeds. And will start to plant them. I think I will start it in a small cotainer first. But then still using containers because I have only a cemented lawn.

If you boil your beets with the stems and leaves on, they will keep most of their nutrients and color and won't bleed out in to the water. They are sweeter that way but you will lose the use of eating the leaves.

Another excellent video. I start my beets in module trays before planting out as I have found mixed success with directly sown.

Great video, thanks. I like to soak my beet seeds in water for 2 days just to soften them before planting out, my dad NEVER transplanted seedlings but I tried it this year and it worked well, but you must be careful with the roots. I grow a long variety which I Bottle and pickle. I also love beet relish. Calgary, Canada.

Your videos are so good, i always look forward to them. Beets are probably my favorite veg ever, right up there with kohlrabi. I just discovered my garden centre sells 20 gram value packs of beet seeds. Need! I keep having to buy more and more to keep up with my ferocious apetite for them. Maybe i will just let a patch go to seed and see what i get. I buy different packs and mix the seeds. They're all good anyway.

I have to say beets are my favorite vegetable to grow in my garden. Nothing like beets right out of the garden.
