Da iawn ti Carl, dal ati! Dwi'n edrych ymlaen i weld dy daith di trwy ein iaith ni :)
Just as a heads-up, lots of people have had good results with Say Something in Welsh. I've a mate from Spain who speaks Welsh near fluently after using SSIW for a year or two. Also, don't worry too much about the north/south divide. There are only about (allegedly) 100 words which are different between north and south (though some of them happen to be the most common words). Anyway, well done, good start, and keep at it!

Subscribed! I recently started learning Welsh due to my heritage & to give me an ego boost while my Japanese learning is soo slow (even though I live in Japan) lol. Thanks for the tips!

S'mae! Dw i'n dysgu siarad Cymraeg hyfed. Dych chi'n dod o North Carolina? Dw i'n byw yn Virginia.

One quick note: Duo Lingo actually teaches BOTH North and South dialects of Welsh. It can be a pain though, because unless you look in the Notes on the PC app (not available in the phone version) you won't necessarily find out which is which. For example, the two units on possession: Gyda is South Wales, Gan is North Wales.

I had actually watched some of those Easy Welsh videos just randomly! They seemed fun.

I started learning Welsh from looking at real estate and after I began to recognize words, decided to try Duo Lingo, too. I could tell you started there from the selection of words and pronunciations.

Another book by Colin Jones is Cadw Swn - a great book with a good audio component. FYI, Jones’s audiobook version of Simple Welsh is a great starter! Da iawn!

Very good information. Thank you. My Mom's family came from Wales. Their last name is Pendley. I'm not sure they are actually accurate about being Welsh because they also said there was a Pendley castle in England which is totally not true. There is a Pendly Manor that I found but I have long since forgotten where over there it is. Anyway, thank you for the information.

Mae'n gwych i weld rhywun yn dysgu Cymraeg yn enwedig yn dod o tu fas o'r wlad! Roedd eich Cymraeg yn bendigedig am ddechreuwr! Da iawn! Now I hate to be that guy, but since you asked, I'll point out a few things for improvement - in a good-natured encouraging way (I hope that gets conveyed in text form). 'Dw i hoffi cwrw'/'Dw i gweithio mewn swyddfa' is almost right but you want to add an 'yn' in there which you'll shorten to Dwi'n (dw + i + yn contracted for vowel clash). You got it right in 'Dwi'n tria dysgu Cymraeg'. Also, 'cwrw' has both vowel sounds being pronounced the same as the last one 'w' not 'y'.

You work on a day not in it, so it's 'ar bore Dydd Mawrth' not 'yn bore Dydd Mawrth'.

I think you might've missed the 'a' between 'bara' and 'caws', but maybe it got a bit smushed together with the 'a' at the end of 'bara' ( just 'bara caws' means cheese bread which sounds delicious but doesn't mean bread and cheese)

And lastly, may I compliment your fantastic accent for someone who's never been to Wales? Mae'n ardderchog! Dal ati a pob lwc gyda dysgu'r Cymraeg!
(Gwnes i tyfu lan yng Nghymru yn siarad Cymraeg ond mae fy sgiliau iaith wedi mynd bach yn rydlyd yn ddiweddar. Os mae unrhywun yn gweld cymgymeriad mewn beth dwi'n ysgrifennu fan hyn, byddai'n diolchgar am y gywiriadau.)
