SOLVED! Popping out of Gear after Body Lift - Project 2004 Jeep TJ Wrangler

I simple fix for a simple problem. I hope this helps you if you have a similar issue.

My tj has a 2.5" lift. This did a little bit better but my second and reverse kept popping out. I ended up torching the shifter at the bottom and bending it to the dash. Then let it cool and torched it a bit higher and pulled it back to where it was. Now it stays in gear. I used a welding blanket and wet rags. Thanks for the video

Jeez! I have a JK and while I was working on that to get it how I wanted when I searched something, your video came up and was so helpful. Now I also bought and nice TJ that has a body lift. I spewed my issue into the web and look who was there to save the day! Thanks so much! Hope things are good since you left MD. It's still sucks here. It's 23 degrees this morning.

I just put my shifter in the press and bent it forward at the base. Worked mint.

My 03 does the same thing. I'll tear it apart. Pull that piece out. See how it shifts, then start modifying. Thanks for the video

Had this EXACT same problem. My fix was I got rid of the rubber boot and went with a leather boot. Problem solved!!!

I did something similar, however, it's not necessarily just that bracket that is causing the issue - it's the shift boot itself that binds up and still likes to kick me out of 2nd from time to time. I guess it's not nearly as annoying as it was before, so I haven't really done anything to it. My assumption is that replacing the boot itself with a thinner material will ultimately correct it...or just take the body lift off. LOL

I have a 2011 JK that intermittently pops out of 1st gear. Only happens with 1st gear. Do you think your solution would fix my problem? Thanks!

Just bought a 2001 TJ with a 3.5” body lift. Does fine in 2nd but won’t stay in fourth. Also pops out of 3rd and 5th when I let off the gas. Somebody recommended a longer shifter or an extension. Thoughts?

To fix this problem correctly they sell a longer piece that goes into the transmission. Buy it and get the seals that go in the top of the transmission plate and do it right! No more issues!

Good video, I have a jeep tj with a 6" lift and transfer case drop. I tried. The boot kinda sux. Looked up CJ images. Removed upper boot. Its not pretty, but its a fu$!n jeep and I have no more shifting issues.

Have a body lift on 03 tj and did same thing. Also moved rear wiper switch over to keep from flipping it on when shifting to 3rd. Lol

I tried this on my 03 after a body lift. I cracked the hell out of the small plastic frame. Now my boot dangles in the hole. :-)

Need to do engine mounts and transmission mount at the same time . No need for this action !
