My son is in the 4th grade and he asked me why he cannot divide a number by 0 and get an answer. I am going to have him watch this video. This was beautifully explained. This was done in plan language so that anyone who can comprehend basic information can understand! Awesome job!

10/0 basically means that we cut 10 cherries into zero sized pieces and then put each one of them on plates. Since we are assuming this pieces are zero sized it means cutting each on of them won't make cherries any smaller, so we can cut endless amount of zero sized pieces and put them on endless plates, and we will get infinity.

I wonder why author hasn't mentioned that.

This is the best, most visual demonstration of the impossibility of division by zero that I've ever seen in my life! Thank you very much!

Interesting video. But that raises a problem. If infinity * 0 is still zero, how can infinitely many 0D points add up to give a 1D line?

‏‪5:42‬‏ ‏‪that's actually wrong, that's like saying if you raise any number to the power of 0 it always equals 1 which is not true you can actually get any number from every function but it's harder to do that with /0, all you have to do is just put the inverse of the function to cancel the effect

eg: 0×?=10 the answer is the fraction 10/0 since the two zeros cancel out you get the ten as the answer and you can replace the 10 with any number like negative, fraction, irrational numbers like pie, infinite, undefined numbers like 10/0 or even imaginary numbers like 3i.

Eg2: what number do you put to the power of 0 to get 10 the answer is the 0th root of 10.

As you can see these hard examples of only one answer require numbers that are undefined like n/0, 0th root..., but it's always possible to get any number anywhere you want

I actually found this out myself! I didnt use plates tho, just groups of "cherries" in the world in general. If you have >0 cherries but want no groups, it would be impossible because the cherries exist and already are making up one group so the only way of dividing by 0 is when you have 0 cherries already

I love his videos
I am a student and he clears all my doubts which occurs in my mind .
You are doing great work man 👍
Keep it up👍👍👍👍

easyy. you cannot ration out a pizza to zero people BUT you can take zero pizzas and ration (It?/them?) out to 5 people; everyone will get ZERO slices of pizza.

just absolute infinity (simultaneously positive and negative infinity) since zero is empty and the opposite of empty is full (the number line is infinite in length so division by zero results in infinity in both directions) but infinity is conceptually the opposite of zero in every way (divergent and endless and not really a number, undefined)

Should have ended the video with "Because that's absurd" xD I'm glad that this was the video that popped up when I was trying to figure out if true 0 is a man made concept or a number that exists by nature. After hours of thinking I came to the conclusion that even the vaccume of space is approx 4 to 5 degrees warmer than absolute zero temperature (Temp at which even atoms have halted all movement and all dissorder dissapears), which means that by nature there is nothing that exists at an absolute halt in movement. This leads me to believe there can only be 2 answers.

1) 0 is a number that was created by or given to man to define both the beginning and the end of something thus giving structure and understanding to how we see the world and the universe around us. We can divide by any other number that naturally exists and get an answer. However the man made 0 cannot be.

2) True 0 is a concept that is beyond human understanding and that is why when we divide by it we get undefined. We just cannot comprehend anything past that.

This video is exactly what I needed to just drop it and move on with my day. 😆 Anyway I subscribed and I hope you keep making these kind of videos! I think "That's Absurd" should be your staple phrase 🤔

Like you said in 3:14 how many plates are we going to have with 0 cherries this number coud be anything like 1 plate, 256 plates, 1*10^48 plates, there will not be a real answer. Like you said later, if we had infinite plates then the equation will have an answer but as you discussed there isn't. It is also true that if you try to rearrange the numbers to multiply them, no number multiplied by 0 gives 10.

Why not put 5 plates on top of 2 cherries?

If A are Apples & P are Plates then A÷P = (A÷P) because they are unlike terms.
To make this explanation valid do not assume that A÷P=1 same way as A÷A=1

The only thing about this proof is that it doesn't explain why 0/0 is undefined. Using both the cherry example and the multiplication inversion would imply that 0 works as a result.

What about 0/0? Apparently that is undefined as well but if I have 0 cherries on each plate and I have 0 plates then I must have 0 cherries right?
