As a Hispanic man. I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia. Mathematics, Reading, and Reading Comprehension is exhausting for me. 😒🙂✝️🇩🇴🇺🇲

I just want to share about my son and his maths struggles too. He’s 9, and we have been told we have dyscalculia. I personally never heard much about it before. He would just hate math since he joined the school. Our friends recommneded us the dyscalculia program called Calcularis, and it's made a huge difference.
If your kid struggles with math like mine, I really recommend trying Calcularis. And if you need something for dyslexia too, Grafari is helpful for spelling and writing.

I'm pretty sure I have both. I was kind of diagnosed with dyslexia as a kid, but it wasn't severe enough for my mom or teachers to bother getting an official, or treatment...

Yah, theyve both gotten increasingly worse the older I get. 😖

As a child, numerals simply looked like well ordered chicken scratch. I could read them, but the sentence made zero sense. If I could have articulated it, I'd have asked, what is the significance? What does this relate to? Early elementary lessons aggravated that with pages in workbooks asking the student to add the groups of cows plus pigs plus saucers for a sum. Algebra actually cleared up addition for my brain because I could finally focus on behavior of math instead of wondering, 3" what? 8 what? 4 what? Sewing and industrial arts made me learn fractions because I finally saw what 7/8 meant. I found it fascinating enough to care when learning in chemistry classes to grasp a bit of dimensional analysis. I sure do wish someone could have helped me earlier, though.

I'm obsessed with physics, and wanted to be an astrophysicist. Joke's on me, because I can't math; thanks, dyscalculia, I hate it.

But. I do write, and I guesstimated a character's abilities - speed, weapon range and speed, and so on. A friend (I use that word lightly) who is in the physics world asked me how I got accurate calculations without math, as apparently, all my guesstimaing was actually correct with physics.
I told him I just based off what seemed logical, and guesstimated from there.

He still doesn't believe I have dyscalculia.🤷🏽‍♀️

2 + 2 really? I think most people with dyscalculia know the answer to easy, simple maths using only (+)
“It’s treatable”, what the hell it’s not an illness, it’s a difference and something that can be managed with the right tools. Unfortunately because of the lack of recognition and understanding of dyscalculia less people are being diagnosed and the government at least in England won’t have free dyscalculia tests but free dyslexia tests you can get anywhere, a dyscalculia test will cost hundreds and can only be done in a few far apart, specific places miles away. It’s ironic really because someone with dyscalculia struggles with direction and finances but they are requiring you get together hundreds of pounds and go on a long journey in order to be diagnosed 😂

It sounds like a complex condition caused by fairly extensive brain damage. Parietal damage has been implicated, as in spinal bifida. EEG-10 region P3 has been connected to both visual spatial skills as well as mathematical calculations using a mental grid. The fact that visual-spatial skills remain intact might imply that the pathology lies elsewhere, not in the usage of numbers but perhaps in their basic construction
