Easy Celsius to Fahrenheit Trick

Easy trick to estimate Celsius to Fahrenheit (or Fahrenheit to Celsius) conversions in your head, without a calculator or memorizing formulas.

Works with temperatures below zero as well. -10C... double it equals -20... add 30 equals +10F... which is close to the real answer of +14F.

Here is something I worked out years ago that helps me do the math in my head. I double the Celsius, subtract 10%, then add 32. So, in the first example; 20 doubled is 40. 40 minus 10% is 36. 36 + 32 = 68.

Almost the entire world uses Celsius. But we Americans have to stick to our Fahrenheit. It's a little insane. But my interest is personal. Two of my adult children are living in European countries and I want to be able to easily convert temperatures when we're chatting about the weather. This was so so helpful, Thank you very much!

I remember when the switch over happened in Canada. I was working as an AM dj at an upcountry station and we had to stop making any onair comments about ditching Fahrenheit 😢 and only state the temperature in Celsius. Our listeners were mostly polite Canadians and wished we'd give both C&F, but as a polite Canadian radio dj who wanted to keep his job, I did my part for the country. I could not imagine such obedience from our southern neighbors.
