There's a book called Guitar Codebreaker Unlocked, and it teaches everything about playing guitar, from essential skills to advanced techniques. It’s perfect for all levels

This is SUPER important for sounding like a pro vs. amateur. And yes, very hard to get smooth and reliable.

Its a big part of my style. It was a game changer to blend chords and arpeggios simply by switching up when I play a full chord vs outline certain notes in the chord. Its also a great way to highlight different chord voicings. Def worth practicing, check out the song Eriatarka and Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt for a master class on this.

I remember when I was 17 (3 years into guitar and over 10 years ago), I sat with the PDF tabs for like 4 hours and learned it. Once I was comfortable with the progression & memorized it, I was able to just add this strum pattern intuitively simply because I've listened to that album front to back like 100 times and just knew what it sounded like. It's now my warm up song on acoustic

I will say what also makes this hard to play is that you are constantly bouncing between bass notes and high notes, but you are also playing certain parts much louder and certain parts softer than the rest of the song.

My evil trait is that I think I can do it easily and infront of actual people

Another great example of this is Needle and the Damage Done

Just keep doing it. Think about what you do when you do it. Make it sound like you want it to sound. And dont settle too easy. Also just play all the time and it will be second nature to you where strings are in relation to your strumming hand.

A point to make, its as much as the left hand, as is the right. For me at least. I was self taught, and had a passion for fine tuning my music ear, that i made myself a mission to be able to mimic whatever music on my guitar. When i learned stuff like this, i had no idea how to explain it, and i still no idea, .. it just comes out.. not saying im some kind of talent, i truely do believe its actually natural, one of those things whete if u think too juch about it it'll never ever come around...

But i do know, when u want to ring a note out a vhord, some subtle almost un noticable muting goes on with the left hand.

It maybe hard for beginners, but it comes just like that with time and experience.

I didn't know this was an actual thing 😅 I'm self taught and I don't know how to follow a strumming pattern for the life of me, yet I can play a song by playing the strings that I hear importance in when listening to a recording. Very nice to know 👍

It also is just easy if you aren’t a beginner

This is a technique I feel you just pick up over time naturally by playing. At least that’s how it worked for me.

Paranoid Android by Radiohead is a great example of this too. When Thom Yorke plays it live it just looks like he's strumming normally, took me a while to wrap my head around it 😂

Honestly I think it just depends on the genre you play. I’ve always played bluegrass and this is one of the first things I learned to do.

I learned this song, it took a while to target strings, but it sounds amazing now, btw use a Kapo on the 7th fret for the best sound
