WE ARE GETTING INTO IT TODAY! When we have items that already fit in the cabinets, we are 60% less likely to get rid of them simply because the cabinet door shuts. We have so much on our plates and most of the a task like this doesn’t feel necessary because the space doesn’t feel like it’s hindering our lives.… But it is.

Seeing overcrowded cabinets every day can cause boosts in cortisol, a.k.a. the stress hormone, and really affect our mental health even though the cabinet shuts.

We justify keeping it because we may use it again and that can be an overwhelming thought to break free of.

But is keeping it worth your mental health or worse the cost of a bigger home to store it? Start today, purge what you don’t need or use to make room for the items you do use!

Oh!! The comfies im wearing are by @halara_official and I’m obsessed!

The second I get rid of something I never use...I have a reason shortly thereafter to use it. ☠️

Yes! My stress goes down when I don't have so many things in my space.

I got rid of half of my stuff in 2019 and only missed one single item, a book. I repurchased it for 10 bucks. My house is so easy to clean & maintain now.

I will concur, too much stuff is stressful. I just donated 14 large bags of stuff from my overflowing sewing room. It's so nice to walk in there now.

I was drowning in our old house. There was so much clutter that I could never seem to get the house clean no matter how much time I spent every day cleaning. When we moved, we decluttered a LOT. I feel like I regained my sanity. Everything has a place now and if it doesn't have a permanent place yet, it will shortly. All I have is one box left to find places for the things or get rid of them and then I get to move on to organizing things a little better. I feel like once I organize everything, our home will finally reach homeostasis for the first time in years.

As a new Mom of 2 in a house that's feeling too small, I totally feel that my stress is tied to the amount of stuff we have!

Within days of throwing away another unidentified object in my junk drawer I finally realize that it was the missing piece of the blender (or some other household appliance) that I’d been either searching for or had no idea was missing.

Oh I have a saying kind of like that! “Just cuz you can afford, doesn’t mean you should buy it”.

A plumbing disaster had me renovating my kitchen, more or less. Renovating my kitchen meant discovering a lot of stuff that I absolutely do not need. I've had stuff in my old pantry that I never used once I neatly put them away. So this gave me a chance to really purge and by extension, start purging stuff from the rest of the house as well!

Well, I don't know if the stress/stuff level thing is scientific, but it is very true for me! My stress levels are much higher when I have too much stuff. And when there is not enough room to 'shove and hide', things pile up outside the cupboards. Never thought I would get to the point where tidying and cleaning is enjoyable, lol.

One thing I noticed was also, the 'prettier' the cupboard is when I open it, the less stressed/the more joy. And the more you want to keep it that way. You would think that a space behind a closet door wouldn't need to be pretty - but just knowing it decreases stress as well. :)

Verses that helped me declutter today: “Life does not consist in the abundance of things” (Luke 12:15) and “God is not a God of disorder but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33). ❤

First job I got over the summer i was 14, made just over $1000 and used it all to buy household things for my bedroom, it was ao cluttered in there... The next year I made my peace with the waste of money and donated almost all of it. It was 100% worth it to feel like I could breathe in my space and keep an easy mental lid on all of the stuff I owned. I've been a minimalist ever since and regularly purge belongings
