ESO’s VISTA survey telescope has spied a horde of previously hidden massive galaxies that existed when the Universe was in its infancy. By discovering and studying more of these galaxies than ever before, astronomers have for the first time found out exactly when such monster galaxies first appeared.

The newly discovered massive galaxies are marked on this image of the UltraVISTA field.

Just put a bunch of circles on the picture without showing anything...they'll never know

It would appear, when paused, that the enormous halos surrounding the galaxies are quite visible. It isn't all verticle lines or graininess of the image. The halos are quite clear.

You can follow verticle lines into curves and then horizontal lines, and so on. You can see the halos interacting and it really does look like the simulations of the swirling dance of the cosmic web as sections draw together.

Personally, I consider them to be currents. and this clip shows them very well.

This video would be much better served with an extremely slow pan over a ten minute period, or longer.
