I think it highly depends on the type of game you play too.

This makes sense. The brain has a use it or lose it relationship with skills so it makes sense that practicing memory and attention on video games strengthens those skills in general.

Did we really need a "new" study for this? Decades of observation show that getting kids involved in activities makes them better at something, and several tests like this have been conducted for at least 30 years.

They don't make video games like they used to anymore 😑. Infact they stopped making them in 2015. Something else took over and is mascarading as video games

I'm a gamer and a doctor and this study just like the claims before it are inconclusive, how does that translate to performing in a place of work or in school as it is not the same as being able to recite numbers or click the button fast.

Maybe you should compare those gamers to functional humans. You can tell which ones they are by driving 3 hours away from where you are and look for the kid bringing in wood or hauling a 50 lbs bag of chicken feed into the run. 🙄
