U.S. scientists have officially declared 2016 the hottest year on record,... making it the third year in a row the record has been smashed.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the average temperature across the world's land and ocean surfaces was 14-point-eight-three degrees Celsius.
That's zero-point-nine-four degrees above the 20th century average of 13-point-nine.
Figures compiled by NASA also show that last year was the hottest on record.
The space agency found that 2016 was one-point-seven-eight degrees warmer than the mid-20th century average.
The new findings have raised fresh concerns that the pace of global warming may be speeding up.
