Another group of Damsels to look into if you're looking for more peaceful species is the genus Chromis. Granted they're not as colorful and can come with their own issues, but if you want an active fish that shimmers in your tank light as it moves, I can strongly recommend a Chromis. They're also dirt cheap since they're in large supply and low demand.

Also, no, Chromis don't _necessarily_ need to be in shoals. You see them in massive shoals in the wild, but in captivity they have a tendency to pick each other off over time and you end up with one survivor anyway. Some people have had luck with them, and I've heard all sorts of advice from "feed them small amounts multiple times a day" to "make sure you have enough hiding spots at night", but the reality is that there's no secret sauce to keeping groups of Chromis long-term. And unlike freshwater shoalers, Chromis actually do fine solo.

I think this is an excellent guide for those of us who want to keep damselfish in our aquariums successfully. I love how it explains in detail the importance of choosing the right species and how to introduce them to avoid aggression problems. In addition, he offers practical advice on creating a balanced environment with hiding places, which I find essential for maintaining peace in the tank. Without a doubt, it is a very useful resource for aquarists looking to improve the coexistence between their fish.

It was very enlightening. I’m particularly fascinated by the yellowtail damsel and would love to own one in the future.

Damselfish is a unique type of fish. Yellow Tail Damsel is a great one. The fish looks stunning with blue and yellow color on its body. It's interesting that the species has an aggressive personality compared to others. Thank you so much for doing this video.
