People tend to mistake that just because Endo isn't "passionate" about SpyxFamily, he somehow hates it or whatever. I'm sure he's happy it's crazy popular and well-received, but as a creator, I'm sure he feels a tinge of resentment. "Out of all of my works, THIS is the one that's the most successful."

It reminds me of a way about Akira Hiramoto
of Agonashi Monogatari and Prison School fame. He also made a manga called Me and the Devil Blues, based upon the song of the same name by blues legend Robert Johnson. I'd say it's easily his best work and every single chapter of it oozes his passion for blues music and the medium of creation. And yet he's arguably most famous for some pervert school comedy. Following Hiramoto, you can even see a bit of resentment in said last arc of Prison School, even if he still liked what he created overall.

Sometimes the thing you resonate the most with won't resonate with others, but bills have to be paid after all and eventually, you have to make what the people want.

if endo-sensei hated anya, they could've been passionate like gege akutami's hatred for gojo 🤣

With manga's with just intense plots and dynamic characters, a character like Anya is a breath of fresh air. A space in the canvas to relax your eyes. I think he might be hurt that his other works cannot get as much attention but a little silly girl can.

There is no way Endo-sensei could pour so much effort into Spy x Family from its artwork, to its writing, to its comedy, and so on if he wasn't attached to his characters. The love you have for your characters is what fuels your passion for your creation, Endo-sensei's passion shines through every single one of his panels.

People gotta understand that not having attachment to a character doesn't means hate, it's just "meh"

People take the author’s interview the wrong way, they merely expressed disappointment because his passion project was panned and discarded while the side project he made as an easy to write manga ended up being the popular one.

It is not an uncommon story either and many manga writers have to cope with this and just roll with the hand they get.

Basically, Spy X Family is not the project he was passionate about so it shocked him when that became his only popular project. He does not hates it but it does create a sort of odd feeling for a writer.

If you read the whole interview, you will see that his friends and people who know him personally were all worried about him being too particular because he doesn't like to draw an ikemen aka handsome man. They also added that if he was the same, he would draw an old geezer instead.

His friends were clapping during their answers because Endo-sensei finally came out of his shell and created Loid Forger, an ikemen.
Thats when Endo-sensei told them that he doesn't feel attach to the character due to having to give up in some way and laughed.

In another interview, Endo-sensei also said that all the cute words from Anya was from Anya in his head speaking to him.

Honestly, some of the panel work during the yacht arc is still some of the most impressive panelling I've ever seen in a manga.
There is no chance that he doesn't at least care about the story he's writing, and it's blatantly obvious that he enjoys drawing the characters at the very least.

The context is Anya is a repurposed design from his past manga's character, Ashe from Rengoku no Ashe.
That's why he said "it's the result of giving up in some ways"

I get where Endo is coming from, I've made characters I feel meh about but at the end of the day the love and passion we put into our characters is what makes our characters feel so cool

From what I know some people just took Endo's words out of context and run with it, resulting to these articles.

I rather remember hearing that he didn’t intend for Spy X Family to get so big. It was simply an exercise, like say, many fan fiction’s amateur writers to.

He took a bunch of cliches and half heartedly started the story. He was honestly extremely surprised when it took off (which is why bits like Loid’s backstory is so late in the manga, or how Anya’s life Pre-Loid haven’t really been explained) since he had been in a rut before hand.

Im just impressed the author is friends with kono oto tomare and blue exorcist mangakas

as a creator and writer there are characters and plots that Im more like its alright rather than outright love it. and thats fine and honestly normal. having an insane obsession over every detail in your work can be extremely exhausting.

It wasn't Anya, it was his entire manga.
He was "giving up" on writing stories he liked at all, and had to make stuff that was marketable. He doesn't hate his characters, he just hates the story cause he's not passionate about it.

I could almost say that he would definitely never create Anya if it wasn't for money XDD

I remember hearing that he wrote Spy X Family due to the fact that he was having a block, but then the series took off. Because it would be stupid to pass up the opportunity, he continued writing it. He probably isn’t very “attached” to his characters because they weren’t really something that he was planning to commit to

He didn't hate Anya, more precise he hate to draw Cute Characters cause its not within his alley of style.
