In this video I grow Scared Lotus plants (Nelumbo nucifera) from seed. Sacred lotus seeds can lay dormant for hundreds of years and can be slow to germinate without the correct treatment. Filing down the seed coat and soaking in water speeds up the germination. I also include a time lapse of the germination along with facts about the sacred lotus and a close up of its amazing waterproof properties.

I used a similar method to break the dormancy of canna seeds and had good germination rates! I wrapped them in moist kitchen towel and kept them warm in a ziplock bag. They took about a week to germinate!

I feel like plants are sentient because how could it know where the water is and search for it like that. 😅 i could be hopeful though.
