Why I Love Chemical Peels: How You May Be Missing Out on an Anti-Aging Treatment

Here is why I love chemical peels for myself and my patients.

I am a huge fan of doing chemical peels which are very different from the home face masks we are having fun with while staying at home more. These medical grade solutions that we carefully apply to patients provide similar benefits to retinoids (Vitamin A derived). I know we need to come up with a better name as the name "chemical peels" can seem daunting or scare away many patients from trying it. Melasma is a common issue we see in men and women and given that lasers can cause worsening of this condition, chemical peels are your best option, so do not fear it!

Unfortunately some people are ordering these products online and are trying to DIY it at home. The horror stories we see online resulting from inexperienced people applying these various acids to their face are picking up in number.

This video is to reassure you that chemical peels are a great "lunchtime" treat for yourself where you could get a treatment done in the middle of the day, and return back to work without people noticing you had a peel done. The video goes over expectations and ways to prepare for your first treatment with me. As mentioned in this youtube video, I perform the treatments myself when you make a rejuvenating peel with me in the office.

Quick fire benefits:
1. Helps clean out pores (very nice with increased mask use causing black heads) and clears up inflammatory acne
2. Helps increase cell turnover and thus increases collagen production and adds a skin tightening and brightening effect
3. Also helps soften fine lines and wrinkles
4. Remember, that just one peel will not fix all of your skin issues but if you can do sequential peels you can definitely see progressive lightening in brown spots and softening of acne scarring.

I really enjoy Dr. Sugai’s videos. I learn so much and he teaches us in laymen’s terms so it’s easy to follow and understand. I also love how he lists all the products he talks about so we can easily refer to sections to refresh our memory. And best of all, he’s very likeable and personable! He’s very pleasant to listen to. I wish my dermatologist was more like him. My dermatologist spends about 5-10 minutes max with me and doesn’t explain much. Thinking of looking for a new dermatologist, hopefully like Dr. Sugai as he understands how to treat Asian skin and is very likeable.

I remember my first 2 peels burned like crazy and done by an Esthetician. Now it doesn’t bother me. My skin has gotten used to it.

Hi Dr. Sugai! I'd love to know your ideas on chemical peels vs. laser treatments for skin renewal. (My specific concerns are collagen stimulation and fine lines/wrinkles.). Will you do a vid on that? Thanks!

How far apart do you recommend doing the peel for wrinkles? I have fine lines on my forehead and around my eyes? I'm 35 years

I’m a wimp with chemical pills but I do love them! But I was completely unaware that using a fan can evaporate some of the peel while it’s doing its magic so from now on I’m going to try not to do that!

I'm about to turn 35 and I'm thinking this is a good idea for this hallmark birthday. I'm fair skinned with some Irish blood tending towards freckles, having lived abroad 7 years in australasia and asia, my skin has definitely taken a hit despite a moderate-to-obsessive with spf 😬

Hi Dr. Sugai, this is a great video! My concern is having sebaceous filaments on the nose. Which chemical peel works best for treating sebaceous filaments? Thanks!

Hi Dr, I'm so happy to discover your channel yesterday. I graduated from esthetician school last year, and I learned that chemical peels only smooth out fine lines and wrinkles for a few months before they come back again. Is this true? Would chemical peels need to be done in the dermis to remove wrinkles? Our license allows us to only work in the epidermis of the skin, so would the peels that we do in the epidermis stimulate the fibroblast cells in the dermis? Unfortunately, a lot of what we learned in esthetician school was based on marketing tactics than science so I'm trying to figure out the truth. Anyways, I look forward to learning more on your channel in the future. Thank you.
