honestly looks like a very specific example where you happned to get (x-5) after factorizing both parts.

thanks bud for the effort in your comment. Just so you know I lost about 40lbs during the past year and with over 100 dress shirts, I wasn't to enthused to get rid of them all. But I wised up and did. It is hard to buy some good form fitting shirts here in America without dropping a good chunk of change. I have some but I hesitate to wear a lot of them while teaching as I often get marker dust on my cuffs from teaching. I agree with your statement, and appreciate it.

I am not sure what factoring technique your teacher is using. Sorry. I can explain how to get the answer using other techniques but it would probably be best to discuss with the teacher over exactly what you are learning in class

you are right you cannot factor by grouping with your polynomial. It does not work for every polynomial. Did I say that? I apologize if I did. If is a very helpful technique to use but does not always work.
